Laundry & Ironing for Kimberley homes
Commuting households rather than lets, so the bag is school uniform, workwear and bedding. The round day is set around the bin collection, because wheelie bins take every kerbside space on a terraced street the morning they go out.
Who buys this here is settled by who lives here. These are households with adults commuting into the city and children at school locally, not lets and not student houses, so the bag is uniform, work shirts, towels and bedding rather than a linen rotation. That makes the service weekly and predictable, and it makes the two fixed points of the week the school run and the bin collection. A round only works if the van can stop, and on a terraced street the morning the wheelie bins go out there is not a space on either side. We build the collection day around that rather than asking anybody to move a bin, and once the day is set it does not move.
Kimberley sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The local reference points are the old Hardys and Hansons brewery buildings, Main Street and Kimberley Leisure Centre, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Kimberley laundry & ironing jobs
School uniform is most of the volume from September onward and it is the part that goes wrong at home. The polo shirts and sweatshirts are polyester or a blend, with a printed or heat applied school badge, and a hot iron laid straight onto that badge lifts it, cracks it or takes the shine off permanently. A hot tumble does the same over a term. So uniform runs cool, comes out of the dryer before it is bone dry, and anything badged is pressed from the reverse on a cloth. It is a small thing that decides whether a jumper looks right in July or looks like it has been washed forty times, which it has.
How a Kimberley laundry & ironing job actually runs
This is a domestic scale round rather than a shop counter, and that shapes what it can promise. There is no premises to drop a bag into and no dry cleaning plant behind it, so anything marked dry clean only, any suit or structured jacket, and any king sized or feather duvet gets named at booking and sent to a specialist rather than risked. What the round does well is the same streets on the same day every week. Collection is a fixed slot and the day is chosen around the bin collection, because on the terraced rows the kerb is solid wheelie bins the morning they go out and there is nowhere for a van to stop. The slope matters less than people expect, since a bag of washing is one carry, but a front door up a flight of steps is worth mentioning when we set the slot. Everything is counted onto a sheet at the door with a copy for you, including anything already stained or missing a button, and counted back at return. Say at the start whether shirts come back on hangers or folded, because a hanging return needs somewhere to put them.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly cleaning is the bulk of it, in family houses where the adults commute into the city. Deep cleans cluster in March and before Christmas. End of tenancy work comes off the rented stock near the centre, and it is family lets rather than students, so the calendar stays even across the year.
We run Kimberley on the same round as Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough.
What we check on every Kimberley job
Workwear is the other steady half of the bag here, and it has rules of its own that a household machine tends to ignore. High visibility garments carry heat applied reflective tape, and a hot tumble dry over a few months delaminates that tape at the edges until it lifts in strips, at which point the garment is no longer doing the job it was bought for. Anything with a flame retardant treatment should not meet fabric conditioner at all, because the softener coats the fibre and works against the finish. So workwear runs separately from the household wash, at the label temperature, without conditioner, and it comes out of the dryer early rather than late. What we will not take is workwear that has come off a site carrying oil, solvent or paint, which needs a specialist launderer with the right process, and we say that at the door rather than after it has been in a drum with somebody's bedding.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out
- Linen, towels and household items: School uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time
- Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
- Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Kimberley property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What laundry & ironing costs in Kimberley
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Kimberley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Nobody is home in the day. How does collection actually work?
On the estate houses a porch or a garage side door solves it, and the bag is picked up and returned to the same place with the count sheet inside it. On the terraces there is usually no porch and the door opens onto the pavement, so a bag on a step is not something we will leave. Those households either meet the round on a fixed evening slot or arrange a neighbour, and we settle that at the start rather than in week three.
Can school uniform be turned round in a day?
For a normal bag, yes, if it is collected in the morning. Washing is the fast part and drying is what sets the clock, and uniform dries quickly because it is mostly synthetic. What does not turn round in a day is a bag with towels or a bed set in it, which hold far more water and tie up the drying. If Monday morning is the deadline, split the uniform into its own bag and say so, and it comes back separately.
Can we change the collection day if it clashes with our bins?
Tell us and we will move you within the round rather than around it. The day is set for the street rather than the house, because the whole thing only works if the van does one run past the same doors, but there is usually another slot on the same day or a neighbouring street being done the day before. What does not work is an ad hoc collection each week, which is the first thing squeezed when a week runs late and the reason a fixed slot costs less.
Our washing is mostly work clothes. Is that a problem?
Not at all, and it is one of the better reasons to send washing out, because keeping workwear apart from the rest of the household's clothes is the whole point. It runs on its own load at the label temperature, without fabric conditioner, and it is dried carefully rather than blasted. The one exception is anything heavily contaminated with oil, solvent, paint or biological material, which is refused and pointed to a launderer set up for it.
Do you cover the whole of Kimberley?
Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Kimberley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Kimberley?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Kerbside parking on the terraced streets, with the town centre itself pinched at lunchtime, and we group Kimberley with Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough on the rota.
