Laundry & Ironing for Bramcote homes

Households rather than linen contracts. A garden under mature trees dries nothing from October, and a line under a canopy is still dripping an hour after the rain stops, which is why the wet stage goes out rather than onto an airer.

Two households buy this here and they are buying different things. The first has been in the same house a very long time and can still run a machine perfectly well, but carrying a full basket up and standing at a board are the parts that have stopped being reasonable, so what they want is the whole cycle taken away and brought back folded. The second is a working family with school uniform, shirts and a weekly bag, who want a fixed day and no thinking about it. What almost nobody here wants is what the letting stock in the city wants, because there is very little short term turnover on this hill and no shared houses to speak of. The exception is the handful of whole houses let by the week, which want counted linen sets on a rotation.

Bramcote sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The local reference points are Bramcote Hills Park, the Hemlock Stone, the old church tower and Bramcote Leisure Centre, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Bramcote laundry & ironing jobs

Drying is why this sells here, more than time is. A well planted plot with mature trees over it has almost no line that gets sun and moving air at the same time, and a canopy holds water long after the shower has passed, so washing pegged out underneath one is still catching drips an hour later and collecting whatever the birds above it are doing. From October it comes indoors, and a full load of towels on an airer in a closed room puts a great deal of water into that room over a couple of days. Sending the wet stage out of the building is what stops that, rather more than the ironing does.

How a Bramcote laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collection and return run on a fixed day, and the fixed part is what makes it work, because the round crosses the hill in one pass rather than doubling back across it. Tell us where the bag lives if nobody is in. A recessed porch or a covered doorway is ideal and most of these houses have one; a bag left standing on an open drive under trees is a bag that gets rained on and dripped on, and a wet bag going into a van alongside dry ones is everybody's problem by the afternoon. Everything is counted at collection and counted again at return with the sheet in the bag, which is why a missing sock is a conversation here rather than an argument. Two things are worth naming at booking instead of discovering later. Duvet sizes first: king and super king duvets are refused, because a domestic drum cannot move them and they come back wet through the middle, and the bedrooms in this stock take exactly those sizes. And second, whether ironing comes back on hangers or folded flat, since hangers need somewhere to hang at your end and a hall with one hook is not it.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic rounds in houses with more ground floor than their bedroom count implies, deep cleans bought room by room because half the house is already fine and the other half has had a light pass for years, and window work on both sides of the glass on elevations that take driven rain all winter.

We run Bramcote on the same round as Beeston, Chilwell and Stapleford.

What we check on every Bramcote job

What arrives in a bag from a house with a garden like these is not what arrives from a flat. Grass staining on knees and cuffs is chlorophyll, and it wants a cold pre treatment rather than a hot wash, because heat sets it into the fibre and after that very little shifts it. Tree sap is the other regular, and sap is resin rather than soil, so it needs a solvent before the item ever meets water. Both are worth pointing out at collection rather than leaving us to find them, since a marked garment that has already been through a hot cycle is usually marked permanently. One category comes back out of the bag unwashed: anything carrying wood preservative, creosote, chainsaw or strimmer fuel, or engine oil off a mower, which turns up here more than you would think on plots with hedges and trees to keep down. Those are refused rather than risked, and we say so at the door.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
  • Ironing: Bed linen and duvet covers, slow work and priced separately from clothes

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Bramcote

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Bramcote. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Can the bed linen go in with the clothes?

Yes, and in a house like these it is usually the bulk of the bag. Sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases wash and come back either pressed or folded flat, whichever you ask for. Bed linen is slow work at the board and it is priced separately from clothes rather than counted in with them. The duvets themselves are different, because king and super king are beyond what a domestic drum can move, and we would rather say so than hand one back damp.

We dry it all indoors through the winter. Does that matter?

It matters to the house rather than to the washing. A full load carries a great deal of water, and all of it ends up in the air of whatever room the airer stands in, which is why the windows stream and the coldest wall shows it first. Sending the washing out takes that water out of the building altogether. For anything you keep at home, dry it in a single room with its door closed and the window open rather than spread about.

Nobody is home during the day. How does the handover work?

One named spot that stays dry, agreed once rather than arranged every week. A porch, a covered doorway or a dry corner out of sight of the road all work, and the bag comes back to the same place with the count sheet inside it. You get a message when the collection has happened and another when it is back on the step. What we would rather avoid is a bag standing on an open drive under trees all afternoon, because it arrives wet and everything after is worse.

Can we send it when we need it rather than every week?

You can, though the round here runs on a fixed day and a one off collection has to fit around that, which usually means the day after you ask rather than the same morning. A standing weekly slot takes less arranging on both sides, because the bag simply goes out and comes back without anybody having to organise it. Most households on this hill settle into a set day and a fairly consistent bag size within a month, and after that it looks after itself.

Do you cover the whole of Bramcote?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Bramcote?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Bramcote?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Drives on most properties, which is just as well, because the lanes on the hill are narrow, and we group Bramcote with Beeston, Chilwell and Stapleford on the rota.
