Laundry & Ironing for Bestwood homes
A round that grows in October. Long gardens and a rotary line handle most of the summer here, and the bags start coming out when the drying stops. School uniform and sports kit, collected from the porch on a fixed day.
Who buys this here is a household with more washing than drying space, and that is a seasonal position rather than a permanent one. A long garden with a rotary line does the work from about May to September. Once the clocks go back the same household has three or four loads a week and nowhere to put them, and the alternative is an airer standing in the middle of a room that already runs cold underfoot. So the round fills through autumn and holds through the winter. What arrives is weekday clothing, towels and school uniform rather than the occasional bag of shirts, which means weight rather than ironing hours, and it means a fixed day matters more than a fast turnaround.
Bestwood sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Bestwood Country Park, Mill Lakes and the old colliery winding house, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Bestwood laundry & ironing jobs
A good number of the households that ring us are already having trouble with the machine, and it is the same fault every time. The washer stands under the worktop against the outside wall and its hose discharges into an open gully by the back door, which is how a lot of these kitchens were plumbed. Detergent, fat and lint set into a grey collar inside the gully and across the grating, and once that narrows, the pump out backs up and stands on the path. It is not a laundry problem and we cannot mend it, but it is worth naming, because a household that thinks the machine is failing is often looking at a blocked outlet.
How a Bestwood laundry & ironing job actually runs
The round works because it is a round: the same streets on the same day, so your bag goes whether anybody remembered to book it or not. Collection here is easier than almost anywhere else we run it. There is somewhere to pull in outside nearly every house, the front doors face the road rather than an entry, and a good number of these houses have gained a uPVC porch, which is the ideal handover point. Bag inside the porch, outer door on the latch, nothing standing in the rain and nothing on show from the pavement. Where there is no porch we agree a doorstep time or a safe place, and it will not be an open front garden. The one thing to plan around is bin day. Wheelie bins come out to the front here, and a street with every bin at the kerb is a street where the van has to stand further off and the walk gets longer, so we set collection away from it wherever the round allows. Everything is counted at the door onto a sheet and you keep a copy of it.
Who books it here
Family households on a fortnightly rota make up most of it, with deep cleans booked in spring once the winter mud has stopped arriving daily. Carpet extraction is asked for more often here than almost anywhere else on our patch, and it is usually the hall, stairs and landing rather than the whole house.
We run Bestwood on the same round as Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold.
What we check on every Bestwood job
Sorting happens at the machine rather than in your hall, and the care label sets the temperature instead of one setting doing everything. Towels, bedding and workwear run hot, because hygiene is the point of those washes. Printed cotton and synthetics run cool. School uniform is the item a family actually judges the service on, and it is also the one most often spoiled at home, since a polyester blend sweatshirt that has been through a hot wash and a full dryer cycle pills permanently and nothing afterwards undoes it. Ours run at the label temperature and come out of the dryer early. Anything already stained, holed, bobbled or missing a button is written onto the sheet at the door before it leaves, and the same sheet is counted back on return. Kit that has been on a wet field comes back muddy rather than stained, and mud is better left to dry and brushed off before washing than rubbed at while it is wet.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
- Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
- Linen, towels and household items: Towels washed hot and kept separate from clothing
- Service wash, charged by weight: Tumble dried or air dried, with anything that shrinks kept out of the dryer
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Bestwood property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What laundry & ironing costs in Bestwood
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Bestwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Do you collect from the door, or do we take it somewhere?
From the door, on a fixed day, worked street by street. Most people here leave the bag inside the porch with the outer door on the latch, which suits the arrangement because a porch is dry and out of sight of the road. Where there is no porch, an agreed doorstep time or a safe place both work. What does not work is a bag left on an open front garden beside the verge all morning, and we will not pick one up from there.
We line dry all summer. Can the slot be paused?
Yes, and most households here run it exactly that way. A weekly slot can be suspended over the summer and restarted when the drying goes, provided you tell us before the week rather than on the morning of it. A standing slot works out cheaper per kilo than ad hoc collections, because the van is already on your street, so a small bag kept running all year is worth considering rather than stopping outright.
Can you take the duvets and the pillows?
Singles and pillows sometimes, depending on the filling and whether they move freely in a domestic drum. Doubles, kings and anything with feathers in it go to a launderette with a machine big enough for them, and we will say so rather than take the money. A duvet that cannot tumble never gets properly wet and never gets properly dry, which is how one comes back smelling worse than it went in. Tell us what you have when you book.
We want the ironing done but not the washing. Does that work?
Yes, and it is priced per item or by the hour rather than by weight, because a bag of shirts weighs almost nothing and takes a long time at the board. Send it clean and dry, and say whether it comes back on hangers or folded flat, since a hanging return needs somewhere at your end to put it. Bed linen and duvet covers are slow and counted separately from clothing. Ironing done inside a regular cleaning visit is a different arrangement altogether.
Do you cover the whole of Bestwood?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Bestwood?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Bestwood?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time, and we group Bestwood with Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold on the rota.
