Laundry & Ironing for Rise Park homes
Two customers wanting opposite things. Families on the school run buy uniform and workwear on a fixed weekly slot in term time. Retired households already own a machine and are buying back the ironing and the winter drying.
There is no launderette on the estate, so anything sent out is collected and brought back, and the two households buying it want opposite things. Families run a fixed weekly slot in term time: uniform, kit, workwear, and the volume drops off a cliff in the holidays, which is worth building into the arrangement rather than cancelling week by week. Retired and semi retired households already own a perfectly good machine and are not buying washing at all. They are buying the ironing, and between October and March they are buying the drying, because the alternative is a loaded airer standing in the hall for two days putting all that water back into the house.
Rise Park sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Rise Park Primary and Nursery School, the shopping parade and the open ground beyond, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Rise Park laundry & ironing jobs
School uniform is the item that gets ruined at home rather than in the wash. The polo shirts and sweatshirts are polyester or a polyester mix with a printed logo on the chest, and a hot iron laid flat on that print softens it, takes the gloss off it and eventually lifts the edges. It gets pressed on the reverse at the setting the fibre wants rather than the setting cotton wants, and often not pressed at all, where a shake out and a hanger does the job better. The same fabric goes shiny at the collar and cuffs after a few hot dryer cycles, and that shine is permanent.
How a Rise Park laundry & ironing job actually runs
Collection and return are two short doorstep visits, and they run better on a fixed day than on a call. Bags are weighed at the door, the weight and the count sheet are agreed there and then, and nothing gets left outside a house at either end, so we need somebody in or an arrangement made in advance. On this estate that is easier than most, because a good number of these households are in during the day anyway. The van does not need the drive for it: a handover is two minutes, so the road outside is fine and the cars can stay where they are. Turnaround is the thing to be realistic about. A service wash sorted properly, run at the temperature each label asks for, dried at a rate the fibre will take and then ironed, is a two day job rather than a same day one, and anybody promising otherwise is running the whole bag at one temperature. Term time is the natural rhythm here. A weekly slot through term covering uniform and workwear, then something lighter over the holidays, is far easier to hold than a booking made whenever the basket overflows.
Who books it here
Regular domestic cleaning is the bulk of it, mostly fortnightly and mostly attended, since many of these households are retired or working from a converted garage. Deep cleans get booked to a date, a family event or a sale, rather than to a backlog. Window cleaning is third, where exposure rather than dirt sets the rota.
We run Rise Park on the same round as Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold.
What we check on every Rise Park job
Towels are the item that arrives with a problem nobody has diagnosed. A household washing small loads often, dosing to the line on the cap every time, leaves detergent down in dense cotton loops that never rinses fully out, and fabric conditioner on top of that coats the fibre with something designed to feel soft and stay put. The result is a towel that dries stiff, smells stale a day after being used, and has stopped absorbing water at all, which gets read as the towel wearing out. It is recoverable. A hot wash with no detergent and no conditioner in it, run twice where it needs it, strips that build up back off, and dosing to the actual load rather than to the cap keeps them right afterwards. Towels also want washing away from clothing, which is half the reason they got into that state.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Service wash, charged by weight: An itemised count sheet in the bag, matching the one taken at collection
- Ironing: Collars, cuffs, plackets and yokes done individually rather than in one pass
- Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out
- Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Rise Park property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What laundry & ironing costs in Rise Park
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Rise Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Do you take the bedding as well?
Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers yes, and they are washed hot and either pressed or folded flat depending on what you want back. The duvet itself is a different question, and the honest answer is usually no on a king or a super king, because a domestic drum cannot move enough water through it and a half washed duvet stays wet in the middle. Feather duvets want a launderer with a machine built for them.
Everything comes back on hangers. Where does it go?
Wherever you tell us, and it is worth deciding once rather than every week. Pressed items travel on hangers under a cover and want hanging within the hour, so a rail, the top of a door or a cleared few inches of wardrobe beats a pile left on a bed. Folded work comes back bagged and counted, by person or by room if you tell us how the house is organised. The count sheet is in the bag either way.
Some of it is dry clean only. Do you sort that out?
We sort it out of the bag rather than send it on for you. Dry clean only labels, structured jackets, tailoring, silk and unlined wool all come back untouched with a note, because putting any of them through a machine wash is how a garment gets lost for good. The same goes for anything with a broken zip, a missing button or an existing tear, since a wash makes all three of those worse. A dry cleaner is a separate trade and worth a separate trip.
Can workwear go in with the household wash?
It should not, and keeping it apart is most of the point of sending it out. Workwear carries whatever the job puts on it, and a shared load moves that onto everything else in the drum, so it runs on its own cycle and comes back on its own. What we cannot take at all is anything carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, which needs an industrial launderer with the right process. Tell us what the work is and we will say which side of the line it falls.
Do you cover the whole of Rise Park?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Rise Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Rise Park?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Every house has a drive and the frontages are open, so a van parks without blocking anyone, and we group Rise Park with Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold on the rota.
