Laundry & Ironing for Bestwood Village homes

No launderette in the village, so washing is a drive rather than an errand. Drying is what people are really buying: a yard line boxed in by walls at one end of the village, a rack in a sealed house at the other.

Drying is what most people here are actually buying. There is no launderette in the village, so a machine load is never the problem, but getting it dry in a house that will not do it is. An old row house has a small yard line boxed in by walls and the row itself, so the washing sees little direct sun and only the wind that finds its way over the roof. A house on the estates dries beautifully in the garden on a fine day and then spends three winter months on a rack in a sealed room with one extractor. Both end with the same thing: clothes that took two days and came out creased through rather than creased on the surface.

Bestwood Village sits in NG6, under Gedling Borough Council. The local reference points are the winding engine house, St Mark's church and the edge of the country park, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Bestwood Village laundry & ironing jobs

Slow rack drying leaves a different sort of crease from a hot wash, and it is the one that costs time at the board. Fabric dried in place over a bar sets with a hard line across it, usually straight across the back of a shirt or down the middle of a duvet cover, and it will not come out with a pass of a dry iron over the top. It wants steam from the reverse and a little patience. The opposite happens on a windy line out here: things dry very fast and go stiff, particularly towels, which is why towels are washed hot and dried separately rather than sent through with the rest of a mixed load.

How a Bestwood Village laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collection and return are the awkward part here, not the washing. An old row house opens straight onto the pavement with no porch and nowhere a bag can safely sit, so we work to a named time, a key safe or an agreed neighbour rather than a doorstep drop. Bins are the other thing to plan around. With no side access those houses keep their bins at the front, and on collection morning the pavement is a solid line of them with no room for a van, so we keep that end of the village off the round on its bin day and tell you which day yours falls on when we set the slot. On the estates a drive, a porch or a garage side door usually solves both ends of it. Returns need a thought too. Ironing comes back on hangers under a cover if you want it that way, which needs somewhere inside the door to hang it, and in a narrow hall there often is not, so folded flat is the more sensible ask. Bags are weighed at collection with the weight confirmed before anything is washed, and the count sheet comes back in the bag.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic work in family houses is the bulk of it, across both halves of the village. Deep cleans come in twice a year, usually before somebody moves or after a bathroom is replaced. Window cleaning comes third, because there is nothing between these houses and the weather but open ground.

We run Bestwood Village on the same round as Bestwood, Hucknall and Rise Park.

What we check on every Bestwood Village job

What arrives in the bag says a lot about the house it came from. Washing that has sat damp in a basket in a cold back kitchen for two or three days waiting for collection has already begun to turn, and that smell is bacterial rather than something a fragrance covers. It will not come out at a temperature chosen for a mixed load, so it needs a hot wash on whatever will take one and a longer cycle with the right chemistry on whatever will not, and it is better to know that at the door than at the machine. So the ask is simple: bag it dry, or bag it wet only if we are collecting the same day. The other recurring find is what comes out of pockets in a walking household, since a paper receipt or a tissue that goes through a wash distributes itself over an entire load and turns one job into two. We check them, but a pass through by you is quicker.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Service wash, charged by weight: Tumble dried or air dried, with anything that shrinks kept out of the dryer
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Washed at the temperature on the care label, not one temperature for everything
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Bestwood Village

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Bestwood Village. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

We have a line and a machine. What is the point of sending it out?

The point is the week when the line is no use, which out here is a long stretch of the year. A weekly bag on a fixed slot means the washing leaves the house wet and comes back dry, folded and counted, and nothing spends four days on a rack in a room somebody is trying to live in. Households that keep this on through the summer usually do it for the ironing rather than the washing, and that is a fair reason too.

Can we send bed linen and duvet covers as well?

Yes, and it is the item people most want off their hands, because a double duvet cover is slow to iron and there is rarely anywhere in these houses to spread one out. Sheets, covers and pillowcases come back pressed or folded flat, whichever you say. King and super king duvets themselves are a different matter and we do not take those, so the cover comes and the duvet stays with you.

Can you collect if we are out at work?

Yes, and most households here run it that way, but it has to be arranged rather than improvised. A key safe is the usual answer, and a bag left inside the door works far better than one left on a pavement outside a front door that opens onto it. Whatever we agree gets written down with the return arrangement at the same time, because the return is the half people forget until they are standing outside a locked house with a week of clean washing.

Can we send workwear through with the household washing?

It is kept apart from household washing, which is most of the reason to send it out at all. What we cannot take is workwear carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, since that is a different process and it contaminates everything it shares a drum with. Ordinary uniform, tabards, polo shirts and trousers are fine, and if it is a weekly need it goes on the same fixed slot as the rest of the bag.

Do you cover the whole of Bestwood Village?

Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Bestwood Village?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Bestwood Village?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Newer closes have drives and visitor bays, and we group Bestwood Village with Bestwood, Hucknall and Rise Park on the rota.
