Laundry & Ironing for Calverton homes

Households, not lets. Everybody drives out early and gets back after dark, there is nowhere near here to take a bag, and from October a load left on an airer in a cold room is still damp on Thursday.

Nobody sends laundry out here because they cannot wash it. Every house has a machine. What is short is a drying day and somebody at home, and both of those are seasonal. Washing goes on a line down a long garden with a field over the fence, which is excellent for half the year and impossible when the land next to it is being worked or the wind is coming the wrong way. The rest of the time it goes on an airer indoors and sits there for two days in a cold room doing the house no good at all. The other half of it is the return. Collection and return sit on the days we are already out this way, so the cycle is a week and the unit is a bag out, a bag back.

Calverton sits in NG14, under Gedling Borough Council. The local reference points are St Wilfrid's Church, Windles Square, Main Street and the fields on every side, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Calverton laundry & ironing jobs

Bags from here come with mud in them, and the mud has usually dried. Dry is better than wet, but it wants knocking out before anything goes into a drum, because wet mud in a full load grinds fine grit through the weave of everything washing beside it and comes back as a grey cast rather than a mark you can point at. Dog towels and outdoor trousers are the two that carry most of it. They get shaken out, run on their own and kept clear of bed linen, which is why we ask how your household divides its washing before the first collection rather than sorting by colour and hoping for the best.

How a Calverton laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collection and return are the easy part of this service here, which is not true everywhere. Drives on almost everything mean the van pulls off the road at the door, the swap takes a minute and nothing is carried down a shared entry or left on a pavement. What the round needs is somewhere to leave a bag when nobody is in, and a porch, a lidded box in the lee of the back door or a key safe all work. Say which, once, and it holds. The cycle is a week, because the collection and the return both sit on days already coming out this way, so the practical arrangement is one bag going and one bag coming back on the same doorstep. That means having enough of whatever you cannot do without to cover seven days, which for most households is towels and school uniform rather than clothes. Bags are weighed at collection with the weight and the price confirmed before anything is washed, and a count sheet goes in the bag matching the one written at the door. Tell us if the house sorts by person or by room and it comes back folded that way.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic work is the base of it, in houses where the whole household drives out in the morning and nobody is back before evening. Deep cleans get booked as one longer visit instead of split across weeks. Carpet extraction is third and takes more of the diary here than the housing alone would suggest.

We run Calverton on the same round as Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village.

What we check on every Calverton job

Line dried linen from these gardens comes in behaving quite differently from anything that has been near a dryer. Cotton dried in moving air outside goes stiff and sets hard along whatever line it hung on, so a sheet arrives with a crease across it that has effectively been ironed in by the wind, and a row of peg dents along the top edge. That does not press out on a low pass. It wants damping, or a hotter iron with steam and a second run along the fold, and a duvet cover has four of those folds in it before you start. Bed linen is slow work for that reason and is priced apart from clothes rather than lumped in with them. The upside is worth saying: air dried cotton smells of nothing at all, and it takes a press better than a tumbled sheet once the set creases are out of it.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Linen, towels and household items: Bed linen sets for lets, HMOs and holiday flats, cycled on a counted rotation
  • Ironing: Collars, cuffs, plackets and yokes done individually rather than in one pass
  • Ironing: Steam on the reverse of anything that shines, and a pressing cloth on wool
  • Ironing: Returned on hangers under a cover, or folded flat, whichever you ask for

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Calverton

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Calverton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Laundry & Ironingin Calverton

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

We already own a washing machine. What are we actually buying?

Drying, and the hour it takes to fold and put away. The washing is the quick part in any house. What eats the week here is a load that will not dry indoors between October and March and a line that cannot be used on the day you need it. Everything comes back sorted, folded or pressed and bagged by person or by room, on a fixed day, with a count sheet matching the one taken at collection.

Can work clothes go in with the rest?

Ordinary muddy outdoor kit, yes, and it goes on its own cycle apart from household linen, which is most of the point of sending it out. What we cannot take is workwear carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, because that is a different process and it contaminates a drum for everything after it. If you are not sure which yours is, show us at the first collection and we will say.

What happens if the bag is not out when you call?

We look wherever we have agreed, the porch, the box or the key safe, and if there is nothing there we go on rather than wait, because the round out here is a run of addresses in one day. Ring or message and it goes on the next collection rather than getting squeezed in. The same applies in reverse. If nobody will be in for the return, tell us before the day so it is left dry and covered.

Can you take the duvets and the pillows?

Single duvets and pillows where the drum size genuinely allows it, and we will say plainly at booking whether yours does. King and super king duvets, and feather duvets of any size, we cannot take. Those need a launderer with a machine built for them, which from here is a journey into town, so it is better to hear no now than to have a bag come back untouched. Dry clean only labels are out for the same reason.

Do you cover the whole of Calverton?

Yes, all of NG14 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Calverton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Calverton?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Parking is the easy part: drives on nearly everything, and we group Calverton with Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village on the rota.
