Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Calverton homes
Wool is common in the older houses and it holds water, and thick walls in February dry nothing quickly. Extraction goes in early in the day with the heating already on, since drying is the part of this job the building controls.
Two things set this job here and neither is the floor area. The first is what is down: a good deal of wool in the older houses, wool rugs on top of it, and carpet that has stayed because nobody replaces something they are still happy with. Wool takes a lower pH and less moisture than a synthetic twist, and it holds water longer once it has been worked. The second is the building it has to dry in. Thick walls and a February morning move moisture nothing like a modern house does, so the visit goes in early in the day, the heating goes on before we start rather than after we leave, and internal doors stay open. Nobody is five minutes down the road that evening to check it.
Calverton sits in NG14, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly stone and pantile cottages in the old core, brick rows built for the colliery in the fifties, and private estates and bungalows spread over what was farmland, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Calverton carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
The most useful thing to do before quoting is move a sofa. Carpet that has spent years underneath furniture is the only surviving sample of what the rest of the room started as, and a cleaned test patch held against it settles the question people actually want answered, which is how much of the grey lifts and how much has gone for good. It shows up a second thing too. Pile that has been sat under rather than walked on is crushed rather than worn, so it is flat and slightly stiff, and that does come back with moisture and grooming even where the walked part will not.
How a Calverton carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
The job gets decided before any machine comes out, by where the van can stand and where the furniture is going to go. Hoses run from the van to the room, so a house on the estate with a drive is straightforward, while a cottage with nothing off street means a longer run and a door propped open, which in February is worth planning rather than improvising. Inside, the constraint is space. These rooms are not large, and a house lived in for a long time holds heavy things that have not moved in years, so we work a room at a time and stage furniture into an area we clean last, rather than trying to empty a whole floor at once. Anything that has to stay put gets blocked or padded under the feet, because wet pile and a bare wooden leg will mark each other given a few hours. Tell us in advance about anything that must not be shifted at all, and about pets, since a closed door and a drying room do not sit well with a cat that expects to get in.
Who books it here
Fortnightly domestic work is the base of it, in houses where the whole household drives out in the morning and nobody is back before evening. Deep cleans get booked as one longer visit instead of split across weeks. Carpet extraction is third and takes more of the diary here than the housing alone would suggest.
We run Calverton on the same round as Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village.
What we check on every Calverton job
Stairs tell you more about how a house gets used than the floors do, and here they have a shape worth knowing about. Plenty of the older properties turn the stairs on winders rather than a landing, so each tread narrows to almost nothing on the inside of the turn and everybody walks the wide half. Clean one of those flights and the difference between two halves of the same tread is stark, because one side has taken every journey up and down for years and the other has taken hardly any. The dirt itself sits in two places: the back of each tread where it meets the riser, and the outer edge where the carpet runs into the string. Both are hand work with a small tool. A machine head skates straight over them, which is how a flight can look flat and clean and still smell of what it is holding.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Carpets: Thorough dry vacuum first
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Upholstery: Low moisture, because the foam underneath holds water for days
- Carpets: Fibre identified and a colourfast test in an inconspicuous area
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Calverton
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Calverton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can we have just the through route done rather than the whole house?
You can, with one consequence worth knowing first. Cleaning a strip and stopping at a doorway leaves a visible boundary, because the carpet either side of it has aged at a different rate, and that line is more obvious afterwards than the dirt was before. Where the same carpet runs through several rooms we would rather do the run in one go. Stairs and landings are quoted apart from open floor anyway, since a flight is hand work rather than wand work.
Would hiring a machine ourselves get us most of the way there?
It gets the top of the pile and leaves the problem. A hire machine puts down far more water than it can pull back, which means days of drying in a cold house rather than hours, and there is the journey each way to collect it and return it wet. Check the carpet warranty as well, because many of them require professional cleaning at a set interval and ask to see the paperwork before they will pay out.
How long before the room can be used again?
Walking on it in socks is usually fine within a few hours. Putting the furniture back is the part people rush. Feet need to stay on blocks or pads until the pile is dry through rather than dry on top, and in a cool room with a solid floor beneath the carpet that takes longer than it looks. Heating on with internal doors open shortens it far more than opening a window does in winter. We will tell you what we think that particular room will want.
Can old pet accidents be dealt with?
Sometimes fully, sometimes only partly, and the honest answer depends on how far down it went. Surface treatment deals with what is held in the pile. What has soaked through into the underlay and the boards below is a different job, and cleaning the top of it can lift the smell for a day and bring it back as everything dries. We will say which of the two we think you have before we start rather than afterwards.
Do you cover the whole of Calverton?
Yes, all of NG14 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Calverton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Calverton?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Parking is the easy part: drives on nearly everything, and we group Calverton with Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village on the rota.
