Laundry & Ironing for Arnold homes

Households rather than lets, and they already own a machine. What they are buying between October and March is drying, because a week of washing on an airer in the hall puts the water back into the house.

The customer for this in Arnold is a household with a machine, a garden line and no time, which is a different service from supplying linen to a let. What gets sent out is the part that does not fit around a working week: the ironing, the bed linen, and the school uniform that has to be ready on a Monday through term time. The other driver is the six months when the line outside is unusable. From October a week of washing goes onto an airer in the hall or over the radiators, and every drop of it evaporates into the house, which is why the bedroom windows stream in the morning and why sending the bulk out in winter is not a luxury.

Arnold sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. The local reference points are Front Street, Arnot Hill Park and Bonington Theatre, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Arnold laundry & ironing jobs

Collection here is easier than almost anywhere else we work, and it is worth saying why. There is somewhere to stop directly outside, usually a drive, so a full bag travels a few paces rather than the length of a street. Most of these houses already have a porch or a key safe fitted for the cleaning round, so a bag can go in and come back with nobody at home. What gets set at the first collection is the count sheet and where the bag actually lives. Left inside a porch it is fine. Left on a step in front of a bay window it is visible from the pavement, and we would rather agree a spot than assume one.

How an Arnold laundry & ironing job actually runs

This runs on a fixed weekday and a fixed rough time, collected one day and back the next, or a day later again where there is ironing with it. What makes it fit Arnold is that we are already on these streets. Collection and return slot into a round rather than being their own journey, and there is somewhere to stop at every address, so a heavy bag goes from the door to the van in a few paces. Most of it happens with nobody in. A porch, an unlocked side door, or the same key safe already fitted for the cleaning round does the whole thing, and the code goes to us in writing rather than being said out on a doorstep. What gets agreed at the first collection is the count sheet, the drop point and what is not going in the bag. Washing left on an open step in front of a bay window is visible from the pavement, so a porch or a specific sheltered spot is worth naming once and then leaving alone. Term time sets the rhythm on the uniform side, and it stops in the holidays instead of running through the year.

Who books it here

Straightforward family homes on weekly and fortnightly rotas, plus a good number of one-off deep cleans booked in spring and before Christmas.

We run Arnold on the same round as Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall.

What we check on every Arnold job

The count sheet is what makes this checkable. Every bag is weighed at collection with the weight and the price confirmed before anything is washed, an itemised count goes in at that point, and the same count comes back in the bag. Sorting happens at our end rather than yours: whites, lights, darks and towels all run separately, and towels run hot and apart from clothing. Everything is washed at the temperature on its own care label rather than one setting for the whole load. Non-biological and fragrance-free detergent costs nothing extra and is worth asking for on uniform and on anything worn against skin. On the ironing, collars, cuffs and plackets are done individually rather than in one pass, steam goes on the reverse of anything that shines, and a pressing cloth goes on wool. Bed linen is priced apart from clothes because it is slow work. Anything with a broken zip or a loose button comes back unwashed and named.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Ironing: Steam on the reverse of anything that shines, and a pressing cloth on wool
  • Ironing: Collars, cuffs, plackets and yokes done individually rather than in one pass
  • Linen, towels and household items: Bed linen sets for lets, HMOs and holiday flats, cycled on a counted rotation
  • Linen, towels and household items: Towels washed hot and kept separate from clothing

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Arnold property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What laundry & ironing costs in Arnold

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Arnold. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Laundry & Ironingin Arnold

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

We have a machine and a garden. What is the point of this in winter?

Drying, and the humidity that comes with not having any. A full load of wet washing holds a great deal of water, and dried indoors all of it goes into the air and then onto the coldest surfaces in the house, which are the window panes and the corner of an outside wall. Sending the bulk out from October to March takes that away entirely. Most people here keep washing the everyday things and send the linen, the towels and the ironing.

Can school uniform go on a fixed weekly slot?

Yes, and it is worth setting up a few weeks into term rather than in the first week of September when everybody else asks. Uniform runs as its own small bag, washed at the label temperature and pressed rather than tumbled where a synthetic will shine. Give us the names and it comes back separated by child instead of as one pile. Blazers and anything with fused interlining stay out, and so does anything with a broken zip.

Can the duvet go as well while you have the machine?

Single duvets and pillows where the drum genuinely takes them, yes, and we will say so plainly at booking rather than after one has come back damp through the middle. King and super king duvets do not go in, and neither does anything filled with feather or down at any size. Those want a launderer with a machine built for them. A duvet washed in a drum that is too small comes back with the filling migrated to one end, and it does not recover.

We would rather have it back on hangers than folded. Is that a problem?

No, and it is worth telling us which, because the two need different space in the van and different handling at your end. Hangers come back under a cover and want somewhere to hang straight away, which on an unattended doorstep return in the rain is the part that goes wrong. Folded flat and bagged is far more robust. If nobody is in, tell us which door and whether there is anywhere under cover.

Do you cover the whole of Arnold?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Arnold?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Arnold?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Good, and we group Arnold with Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall on the rota.
