Laundry & Ironing for Top Valley homes

The buyers here are working families and shift and trade households, so the load is uniform, bedding and towels rather than a shirt a day. Kitchens hold one machine and no dryer, which is what actually sends the bulk items out.

The households that actually buy this here are not the ones sending out a shirt a day. They are working families with children at school, where the volume that breaks the week is uniform, bedding and towels, and they are trade and shift households who want work clothing kept away from everything else in the house. The kitchen is the constraint behind both. These plans give you room for one machine against the back wall and nowhere sensible to stand a dryer, no utility room and no garage attached to the house to put one in, so a wet week and a family of five is a queue rather than a wash.

Top Valley sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Top Valley Way, the Tesco off it, Park Vale Academy and the old railway footpath, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Top Valley laundry & ironing jobs

Two things come out of the bags here often enough to be worth naming. Uniform polo shirts arrive with the same three marks: grass on an elbow, felt tip on a cuff and dinner down the front, and the fabric is a polyester cotton mix that goes flat and grey if anybody tries to solve that with heat. So they run at the label temperature and the marks are treated one at a time instead. The other is towels that have had fabric conditioner on them for years. They feel soft and they have stopped absorbing water, which is coating rather than wear, and a couple of washes without it brings them back.

How a Top Valley laundry & ironing job actually runs

The round runs to a fixed day and a fixed slot, and it holds because several households on this estate sit inside one call rather than being scattered. Everything travels in bags rather than boxes, since the last part of the journey is on foot in both directions, and bags get doubled in wet weather rather than trusting a single layer. Returns need a little more thought than collections. Ironing comes back on hangers under a cover, which cannot be dragged, propped against a wall or left standing while somebody finds a door key, so if nobody answers, a hanging return goes back on the van and comes on the next run rather than being left anywhere outside. A folded return can wait somewhere dry and agreed, and that spot gets agreed once at the start rather than improvised each week. Mid morning gets more doors answered than either end of the day, once the school run has cleared and before it starts again. For a let with linen on rotation, a spare set kept at the property is what stops the wash cycle sitting between two bookings.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic rounds carry most of it, generally family households where both adults work. Deep cleans arrive ahead of a relet, or when an original kitchen and bathroom finally get dealt with properly. Carpet extraction is the third, because the walk in from wherever the car stopped is long enough to bring the outside in with it.

We run Top Valley on the same round as Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell.

What we check on every Top Valley job

Bed linen is the item people underestimate and workwear is the one with a rule attached. A double duvet cover that has come out of a domestic tumble dryer arrives with creases set into the seams and the buttoned end, and pressing those out is genuinely slow work, which is why linen is priced apart from clothing rather than counted in with it. Workwear is the other regular. High visibility trousers and jackets from this round come in with the retroreflective tape lifting at its edges, and it goes milky and stops performing where garments have been run hot or washed with fabric conditioner at home. Neither is repairable, so the garment gets washed at the temperature on its label with no conditioner, and tape that has already gone gets pointed out rather than quietly returned. Anything actually carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination is turned away at the door, because that is a specialist launderer's work and it would contaminate every other household on the same round.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
  • Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
  • Linen, towels and household items: School uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time
  • Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Top Valley

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Top Valley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Nobody is in during the day. How does collection actually work?

A fixed day and a fixed slot, agreed once, with a message before we are due. Where the house is empty we need somewhere genuinely dry and out of sight for a bag to sit, agreed in advance, and that has to be more than a step under a canopy. The count sheet travels in the bag both ways, so what went out and what came back is on paper rather than in anybody's memory.

Can you take the duvets as well as the covers?

Covers, sheets and pillowcases, yes, without question. Duvets themselves only where the drum genuinely takes them, which in practice means singles and some doubles. King and super king sizes are out, and so is anything filled with feather, because it needs a machine and a dryer bigger than ours and comes back damp inside otherwise. We would rather say that at booking than hand you back something half dry.

I am on site all week. Can you take my work clothes with the family wash?

Taken, yes, mixed in, no. Work clothing runs as its own load and comes back in its own bag, which is most of the reason for sending it out at all. Ordinary site soiling is fine. What we cannot take is anything carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, and that is not fussiness: it transfers in a drum and it is a fire risk in a dryer. If you are unsure, show us before it goes in the bag.

How do you keep two households on the same run from getting mixed up?

Counted in and counted back out, with the count sheet in the bag at both ends. Every household on the round has its own bags and its own labelled load, and nothing from two addresses ever goes into one drum, whatever the weights look like. Within a household the sorting still happens properly, so whites, colours and towels run separately at their own temperatures. If a count comes back short you hear it from us first.

Do you cover the whole of Top Valley?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Top Valley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Top Valley?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Parking is rarely the problem; reaching the door is, and we group Top Valley with Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell on the rota.
