Laundry & Ironing for Colwick homes

Workwear is what gets sent out here. Drill trousers, fleeces and hi-vis off the estate, kept away from the household wash. Hi-vis has a wash count printed on the label and the tape gives up long before the garment looks finished.

The customer here is often somebody whose work clothes cannot go in with the family wash. The estate at the end of the road runs warehousing, transport and trade counters, and that produces drill trousers, fleeces and hi-vis coming home carrying yard dust, cardboard fibre and whatever the shift involved. Keeping that apart from the school uniform is the whole reason it gets sent out, rather than a preference about folding. The second pattern is the household on a shift rota, where a fixed weekly slot has to sit against a working week that is not nine to five, and both the collection and the return have to land at an hour when somebody is actually awake and in the house.

Colwick sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The local reference points are Colwick Country Park, Colwick Hall, Nottingham Racecourse and the numbered roads of the industrial estate, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Colwick laundry & ironing jobs

Hi-vis is the item with a rule on the label that almost nobody reads. A garment made to the high visibility standard carries a stated maximum number of wash cycles, and the retroreflective tape is what fails first: it dulls, lifts at the edges and stops returning light, while the fluorescent background loses its intensity long before the fabric itself wears through. Hot washes and tumble drying both take cycles off it. So workwear runs at the label temperature rather than being boiled in with the towels, and anything carrying oil, solvent or paint off a yard is refused outright and named to a specialist, because that soil contaminates a domestic drum for every load after it.

How a Colwick laundry & ironing job actually runs

A round only works when the same streets are done on the same day, so the practical questions here are where the van stops and who is in. On the cul-de-sacs it stops on the drive and a bag travels a few paces. On the older streets it needs a kerbside space, and on bin morning there is not one, so those addresses sit on a different day of the round rather than being squeezed onto the same one. Returns need somewhere to go: a hanging return wants a rail or a door, a folded return wants a surface, and neither works handed over on a step in the rain. Almost all of this is households rather than lets. The few short lets in the village get their linen inside the changeover instead, so what this round collects is a family's washing, a bag of ironing, or workwear, on a fixed weekly day. If the household runs on shifts, name the hour rather than the part of the day, because a bag handed over at seven in the morning is completely normal here and nobody needs to apologise for it.

Who books it here

Commercial work leads, because the estate holds warehouses, trade counters and small mezzanine offices that need a contracted round rather than an occasional visit. Household cleaning in the village runs alongside it, mostly fortnightly. After builders work is steady too, from unit refits and shopfits as tenants change over.

We run Colwick on the same round as Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton.

What we check on every Colwick job

The washing line is what decides whether this service is worth buying here, and the answer changes with which way the garden faces. On the streets whose gardens look toward the yards and the line, washing left out across a working day can come in needing to go round again, because a fine deposit settles on it and shows up first on white bedding and on anything hung out still wet. People learn that and stop using the line except at weekends, which puts a whole week of washing indoors on an airer. Both halves of that are why the bag gets sent out. It is worth saying what we cannot do about it either: nothing is hung outside at our end. Everything comes back dried under cover or tumbled at the label temperature, and anything marked not to be tumbled is air dried inside rather than put on a line at all.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Service wash, charged by weight: Tumble dried or air dried, with anything that shrinks kept out of the dryer
  • Linen, towels and household items: Bed linen sets for lets, HMOs and holiday flats, cycled on a counted rotation
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
  • Ironing: Collars, cuffs, plackets and yokes done individually rather than in one pass

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Colwick property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What laundry & ironing costs in Colwick

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Colwick. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Laundry & Ironingin Colwick

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Can the work things go in with the rest of the house's washing?

They should not, and the count sheet keeps them apart in practice as well as in principle. Yard clothing carries grit and fibre that transfers onto everything else in the drum, and it usually wants a different temperature from the uniform sitting next to it. Send it in a bag of its own with a note. If any of it has oil or solvent on it, say so at collection, because that goes to a specialist rather than into a domestic machine.

Nobody is in during the day. How does a collection work?

Off a fixed day and an agreed hour rather than a phone call, and on a shift rota that hour is often early morning or early evening. Tell us which end of the day suits and it stays that way, because the round only holds together when the same streets are done on the same day. What we would rather avoid is a bag left in a porch out of sight of the house, since nothing is counted in until somebody hands it over.

Can the workwear and the household washing come back separately?

Yes, and it is the right way to run it. They go on separate count sheets, wash separately and come back in separate bags, so nothing gets sorted twice at your end. Say at the start whether the workwear is folded or hung, because drill trousers and fleeces fold and a pressed shirt does not. If the two have different days they are needed back, tell us that too and the round is built round the tighter one.

We work shifts and the day we need things back keeps changing. Can the slot move?

The slot itself is better left where it is, because a fixed day is the only reason the price and the reliability hold. What can move is what goes in it. If a week comes when you need things back sooner, say so at collection and we will tell you honestly whether it fits. Ad hoc collections are possible and they are the first thing squeezed when a week goes badly.

Do you cover the whole of Colwick?

Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Colwick?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Colwick?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. The estate roads are numbered rather than named, so a satnav will happily send a van to the wrong Private Road, and we group Colwick with Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton on the rota.
