Laundry & Ironing for Netherfield homes

Two customers on one street. Salon and cafe towels off the main road on a counted weekly rotation, and households in the rows sending out bedding and towels because nothing in these houses was built with a machine and a dryer in mind.

Two quite different customers buy this within a few hundred metres of each other. Small businesses on the main road, salons and cafes mostly, running a counted weekly rotation of towels and cloths that has to come back on a fixed day because there is no stock room to hold a spare set. And households in the rows, where the kitchen was built as a scullery and has room for one under counter machine and nothing else, so drying is the bottleneck rather than washing. Neither is buying convenience the way a household with a utility room does. Both are buying capacity the building does not have, which is why the fixed slot matters more here than the turnaround time does.

Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The local reference points are Victoria Road, the railway station, Victoria Retail Park and the Netherfield Lagoons, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Netherfield laundry & ironing jobs

The contents of a household bag on these streets are not what people assume. Clothes mostly stay at home, because a small machine copes with them perfectly well, and what comes out to us is bedding and towels: double duvet covers, sheets, and bath towels in quantity. Those are the items a scullery cannot dry indoors inside a week, and they are the ones that go musty sitting half dry for three days. It also means the weight in a bag of that size is higher than a bag of clothes, which matters on a service wash charged by weight, so it is worth splitting the two and knowing which is which.

How a Netherfield laundry & ironing job actually runs

The round works street by street on a set day, the only way doorstep collection on terraced rows pays for itself. Bags are counted at the door onto a sheet, you keep a copy, and it takes half a minute on the step. Two local patterns shape the timing. Bin day puts wheelie bins out along a footway that was already narrow and takes the kerb space with them, so on your collection day we come either before the round or after the bins are back in the entry. And parking on the main road is short stay and busy, so the commercial pickups go in around trading: a salon before it opens, a cafe after the lunch run rather than through it. Returns need somewhere to land. There is no hall in these houses and no cupboard by the door, so a hanging return has nowhere to go except the stair rail, and most households here take everything folded and hang it upstairs themselves. If you do want shirts back on hangers, tell us where they are going, because a covered rail through a front door and up a winder is not something to work out on the doorstep.

Who books it here

Regular fortnightly work in the owner-occupied rows, tenancy turnarounds on the rented ones, and more small commercial jobs than a residential area usually produces. Shop units and first floor offices along the main street, plus premises on the retail park, where trading hours decide the schedule rather than we do.

We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.

What we check on every Netherfield job

Salon and cafe textiles are the part of this round that needs recording rather than promising. Salon towels carry tint and bleach, and both do permanent things to cotton: oxidative colour marks that will not wash out and bleach spots where the fibre itself has gone. Those are written down at collection so nobody is arguing about them a month later, and a shop that runs dark towels for colour work and white ones elsewhere loses far fewer of them. Barbers' towels carry wax and product, which needs a hotter wash and a separate load rather than sharing with anything else. Cafe cloths are the ones we turn down, and it is worth saying why: textiles soaked in cooking oil are a genuine fire risk in a dryer, because oxidising oil generates its own heat in a warm folded pile. Those want a launderette or a specialist rather than a domestic round.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Service wash, charged by weight: Washed at the temperature on the care label, not one temperature for everything
  • Ironing: Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, school uniform and workwear
  • Linen, towels and household items: Towels washed hot and kept separate from clothing
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Netherfield property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What laundry & ironing costs in Netherfield

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Laundry & Ironingin Netherfield

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Nobody is in during the day. How does collection work?

The same way the cleaning rota does, with a key safe or an agreed spot inside the front door. A bag left on a pavement outside a terrace is neither safe nor dry, so we would far rather have a way in than a bag on a step. Where that is not possible we can set your slot for early evening on your street's day, which is when a good part of the round runs anyway.

The shop has no room to store a spare set of towels. Does that still work?

That is the case a counted rotation is built for. We hold the off set, bring the clean count in and take the used count away on the same visit, so only one set is ever on your premises and nothing has to be stored in a back room that does not exist. The count sheet reconciles both ways, which is what stops a rotation quietly losing towels over a year.

Do you knock, or do we leave the bag out?

We knock, because the count happens at the door and that is the thing that stops arguments later. If nobody is in, a key safe or an agreed spot inside the door works fine. What we would rather avoid is a bag left on a step: on a street with no front garden it is on the public pavement, and one wet morning undoes the whole point of sending the washing out.

Can ironing be done here instead, while a cleaner is in?

It can, and for a small pile it is often the better buy, because it is charged by the hour inside the domestic visit and nothing leaves the house. The collection service earns its place when the volume is beyond a board and an hour, or when the drying is the problem rather than the pressing. We will say which of the two suits what you actually have rather than pushing you at the bigger one.

Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?

Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Netherfield?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Netherfield?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
