Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Bulwell homes
Most terraces here have nothing at the front to clean, because the door is on the pavement. The hard surface is the walled back yard and the shared entry, and the entry is paving everybody uses and nobody owns.
There are three hard surfaces in Bulwell and only one of them is a drive. The terraces near the centre have no front garden at all, so the paving that matters is the walled back yard, usually old concrete or pressed flags laid flat rather than to a fall, with one gully in a corner. Then there is the entry, a paved passage between two houses, permanently shaded, wet for most of the year and green with it, which nobody treats as theirs. The estate houses toward Rise Park are where the drives are, and most are two surfaces rather than one: an original narrow strip widened later in block paving, which takes a different pressure and is the only part that gets sand back.
Bulwell sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. Domestic cleaning across the estates, and small commercial premises around the market place and above the shops, which is unusual for a residential area.
What we run into on Bulwell driveway & patio cleaning jobs
The entry behaves nothing like an open drive and it is worth knowing that before paying for one. A passage with a wall on both sides gets no sun and no wind, so it never dries out, and growth returns on it faster than on anything at the front of the house. It is on the walls at ankle height as well as underfoot. Where the paving is old brick rather than concrete the brick is soft and the joints are lime mortar, so it takes low pressure and a brush rather than a lance, and a rotary head set for a concrete drive will take the faces off the bricks in one pass.
How a Bulwell driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Two things decide whether a job here is straightforward: where the water comes from, and where it goes afterwards. A rotary surface cleaner runs off a hose, and terrace yards do not all have an outside tap, so the hose comes through the kitchen from the sink and crosses a floor that then needs protecting. Where there is no side access at all the machine stands at the front and the hose runs down the entry, which means agreeing a window with whoever else uses it. Run off is the other half. A walled yard has one exit and it is not somewhere a season of algae, silt and dead moss belongs, so what comes off the paving is collected and carried away rather than sent down it. The estate drives have a garden tap, room for the machine and a fall toward the crossover, which makes those the easy version. Spring suits both, because everything you are paying to remove has had the whole winter to establish, and a surface done then holds through the season you actually sit out on it. Block paving also needs dry weather twice, once for the wash and again for the sand.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces around the market place, postwar estates toward Rise Park, and newer development along the tram corridor, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Bulwell on the same round as New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall.
What we check on every Bulwell job
The estate drives nearly all show the same history. A narrow strip that started as a path, widened at some point in block paving, and a kerb at the crossover bedded on mortar that has since cracked. Look along the join between the old concrete and the newer blocks and there is a ridge of silt sitting in it, and the blocks closest to that line are the first ones to start rocking, because the jointing sand washes out there first and nothing holds it in. Kiln dried sand goes back into those joints in stages and gets topped up until they stop taking it. Oil under the parking spot is chemistry rather than pressure, and tyre scuff at the turning point lifts better than people expect. On the terraces the recurring find is pressed flags in the yard with the pointing gone from between them, where a lance opens the joints up rather than cleaning them.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The clean: The run-off checked before we leave, not after somebody complains
- The clean: Black spot lichen treated with a proprietary remover and dwell time, because pressure alone does not lift it and pressure hard enough to try will damage the slab
- The clean: Rotary surface cleaner across the open area, which is what keeps every pass even
- Before the water goes on: Cars, bins and furniture moved off, planting and painted timber sheeted
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Bulwell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Bulwell
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Bulwell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The entry is shared with next door. Who decides?
The deeds decide who owns it. In practice we quote the passage as one piece of work and you split it however you agree between you. Half a passage cleaned is worse than none, because the line between the two halves stays visible for a year afterwards, and doing it once is cheaper than doing it twice. What we need on the day is both back gates off the bolt, since the machine has to pass and so does the water.
Water stands by the back door when it rains hard. Will cleaning help?
Not much, and it is fairer to say so before taking the booking. A yard laid level rather than to a fall holds water wherever the surface dips, and washing it changes how it looks rather than where the water goes. What does help is clearing the gully and the channel feeding it, which is part of the visit. Anything past that is groundwork, meaning lifting and relaying, and that is not work we do.
Can you do the low stone wall at the front while you are here?
Not with a lance. Old boundary walls on these streets are soft stone laid in lime mortar, and pressure takes the face off the stone and the mortar out of the joints, which is a repointing bill rather than a clean. What we can do is brush it down with water at low pressure. What we always do is sheet the base before the machine starts, because slurry thrown off a rotary head marks the bottom two courses more than the traffic ever did.
How long will the entry stay looking clean?
Not as long as a drive, and it is only fair to say that before you book. A passage with walls on both sides gets no sun and very little moving air, so it holds moisture and the growth is back on it before an open surface has even started. Realistically that is a yearly job rather than a once in three years job. Keeping the gully at the bottom clear helps, and so does cutting back anything overhanging that keeps it in permanent shade.
Do you cover the whole of Bulwell?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Bulwell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Bulwell?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Market days fill the centre, and we group Bulwell with New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall on the rota.
