Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Cinderhill homes
A short single drive means the car turns on the same square metre every week, and a power steered wheel twisting on the spot lifts the joint sand out in an arc. The older semis have a poured concrete run down the side instead.
The ground decides this one and it changes within a few streets. The newer estates are block paved: a short drive for one or two cars, a concrete edging course holding it in, and a fall towards the road or into a channel across the entrance. It is laid over made ground, and made ground settles, so it is common here to find a dish in an otherwise sound drive where water stands after rain and the algae is three shades darker than it is a metre away. The older semis have a poured concrete run down the side to a garage, usually with a brushed finish, and a slab patio at the back. Concrete takes real pressure and block paving takes a rebuild afterwards, so those are different quotes even when the areas match.
Cinderhill sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. Fortnightly domestic rounds across both halves, and deep cleans booked at the point someone works out that a five year old house has annual jobs in it too. After builders work sits third, which is unusual for a residential area: plots keep coming forward here, and the snagging trades come back for months after handover.
What we run into on Cinderhill driveway & patio cleaning jobs
A short drive is where the turning happens. There is no room to swing in, so the same wheel comes round on the same spot every time the car goes out, and a power steered wheel turned while the car is barely moving twists the block face rather than rolling over it. You can read it off the surface: a fan shaped scuff a metre or so across, paler than the paving round it, with the joints inside it empty of sand while the joints two metres away are still full. That patch is also where blocks start rocking first, because there is nothing left in the joints to pass the load across.
How a Cinderhill driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Two things want arranging before the date rather than on it, and neither of them is the cleaning. The first is the cars. A drive cannot be washed with a vehicle standing on it, and there is nowhere obvious on these estates to put one for a day, since the visitor bays fill by mid morning and the kerb on the newer roads is often marked out for something else. Work out when you book where the cars are going, including the neighbour's if you share a surface. The second is the water and where it leaves. We collect the slurry rather than flushing it, which matters more here than on a wide plot, because the houses sit close together and a fall towards the road carries everything past two front doors. Bin day is worth avoiding, since bins live on the drive here and the collection point is the part we are cleaning. After that it is drying. Block paving cannot take its sand back wet, so in a settled dry spell the sand goes in the same day, and outside one on a short second visit. Sealing, if you want it at all, is a different visit again.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly older terraces and interwar semis from the years the pit was working, with estates of newer houses, three storey townhouses and small closes built across the reclaimed colliery ground behind them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Cinderhill on the same round as Old Basford, Aspley and Highbury Vale.
What we check on every Cinderhill job
Black spot is the thing people ask about here and misname. On the light buff and grey concrete blocks these estates were laid with, it shows as small hard dots, dark grey to black, a few millimetres across, spread over the open field of the drive rather than sitting in the joints. Most people take it for tar, or for something dripped off a car. It is a lichen, it is anchored into the surface of the block rather than resting on top of it, and pressure high enough to shift it takes the face off the block and leaves a permanently rougher, paler patch that then soils faster than anything round it. It wants a proprietary treatment and dwell time instead. On the older concrete drives you get the same organism behaving differently: a brushed finish holds it down in the grooves, so the surface greens over evenly and reads as general dirt rather than as dots.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The clean: The run-off checked before we leave, not after somebody complains
- Before the water goes on: Cars, bins and furniture moved off, planting and painted timber sheeted
- Putting it back: Sand worked down and topped up in stages rather than scattered once and swept off
- Before the water goes on: Sunken blocks, rocking slabs and failed edge kerbs pointed out before we start rather than blamed on the wash afterwards
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Cinderhill
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Cinderhill. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Our drive and next door's are one surface with nothing to mark the boundary. How does that work?
We clean to the line you tell us, and we say now that the join will show, because clean paving beside uncleaned paving is a hard edge rather than a gradient. On an estate like this the better answer is usually to ask the neighbour and split it, which also settles the slurry question, since anything we wash off has to be collected rather than run onto somebody else's half.
There is a dip in the drive that holds a puddle. Will cleaning sort it?
No. Cleaning takes the black film off, and it will come back fastest in that dip, because standing water is what feeds it. A dish in block paving is a bedding or a ground problem underneath, and putting it right means lifting the blocks, correcting the sub base and relaying them, which is groundworks rather than cleaning. Re-sanding the joints properly is worth doing regardless, since open joints let the settlement carry on.
We have a slab patio at the back and no side access wide enough for a machine.
Then it comes through the house, or it does not happen. Through the house means somebody at home, a run of hose along a protected route and a door open for the duration. That is workable and it wants saying at the quote rather than being discovered on the morning. On the semis here the side path is usually the deciding measurement, so tell us roughly how wide the gate opening is and whether the path has a step in it.
Can you kill the weeds in the joints while you are here?
We take the growth out, roots included where they will come, and fill the joint properly afterwards, which is the practical control. What we do not do is apply a professional use weedkiller, because that is a plant protection product and applying one requires a certificate of competence. Ask anybody who does offer it which product they intend to use, and to show you the certificate that goes with it.
Do you cover the whole of Cinderhill?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Cinderhill?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Cinderhill?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Drives and allocated bays on the newer estates and on-street on the older roads, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Cinderhill with Old Basford, Aspley and Highbury Vale on the rota.
