Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Nuthall homes

Most drives here are two surfaces pretending to be one: an original concrete strip down the side to a garage, widened later in block paving across what used to be front lawn. Only one of those halves wants sand brushing back in.

Nearly every property here has its own drive and most of those drives have been altered at least once. The original was a concrete run wide enough for one car going down the side of the house to a garage, usually cast in bays with a joint every couple of metres. What happened later was paving across the front garden in blocks to get a second and a third car off the road, which leaves two grounds meeting in the middle of one drive: aged concrete at the side, newer blocks at the front. They do not take the same pressure and only one of them gets sand brushed back into it afterwards. Where a drive was replaced outright rather than extended, it is often imprinted concrete, and that is a different conversation again.

Nuthall sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Regular domestic cleaning is the bulk of it, mostly fortnightly in family houses where nobody is home during the day. Deep cleans come second, usually triggered by a sale or a downsize rather than the calendar. Window cleaning is booked more often here than elsewhere on the patch, and the road is why.

What we run into on Nuthall driveway & patio cleaning jobs

Imprinted concrete is the surface we get asked about most and the one where washing does least. What has failed on those drives is the sealer coat rather than the concrete beneath it. It clouds, lifts in patches, goes chalky where the sun reaches and stays dark under the car, and pressure takes off whatever is left of it and makes the patchiness worse rather than better. That is a recoating job for somebody who does it, not a jetting job. The other thing worth working out before any water goes down is where a paved front garden actually drains, because a fair number here fall toward the footway rather than into a gully.

How a Nuthall driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs

This is the one job on the list that needs something from the house. The machine runs off your outside tap, so we need to know there is one and that it works, since plenty of these taps have been isolated inside a converted garage and forgotten about. Cars have to go somewhere for the day, and on most of these closes that is the road outside, which is fine except on the stretches near the junction where it is not, so it gets agreed rather than assumed. The other thing to settle before anything starts is where the water is going, because a front garden paved over in blocks generally falls toward the footway and a side run falls toward whatever is at the bottom of it, which on a shared drive is your neighbour. We sweep and vacuum the slurry up rather than flushing it off the edge, and we cover the gully gratings first. Then there is the wait. Sand goes back into block paving on a dry surface, not a damp one, so on a heavy job the re-sanding is a short second visit rather than the same afternoon. Sealing, if you want it, is a separate visit again and never the same day.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly postwar semis and detached houses across the estates, with an older core near the village end, interwar frontage along the main road, and newer cul-de-sac infill toward Larkfields, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Nuthall on the same round as Kimberley, Strelley and Bulwell.

What we check on every Nuthall job

Two shapes appear on a drive here as soon as the black film comes off, and neither of them is dirt. The first is the outline of the car. Everything around it has weathered, gone green in the wet months and been rained on for years, while the rectangle under the vehicle has not, so a clean surface shows a lighter panel exactly where somebody parks and a dark drip line down the middle of it where the engine has stood. The second is the strip against the house wall. That metre stays shaded, takes the run off the eaves and dries last, so the moss is thickest there and the black spot lichen anchors into the blocks along it, while the wheel tracks a few feet away are almost clear. Lichen is the one that needs a proprietary treatment and dwell time rather than pressure, because pressure hard enough to shift it is hard enough to open the face of the block.

What the driveway & patio cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The clean: Pressure and nozzle set to the surface, well down on sandstone, limestone and porcelain from what concrete takes
  • Before the water goes on: The surface identified: block paving, pressed concrete slab, natural stone, porcelain, imprinted concrete or tarmac, because pressure and chemistry both follow from that
  • The clean: Oil, tyre scuff and leaf tannin staining worked separately, since they are chemistry problems rather than soil
  • Before the water goes on: Established weeds, roots and thick moss pulled and scraped out of the joints by hand first

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Nuthall

Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£100 to £200

Typical cost in Nuthall. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Cleaning, per square metre£3 to £6
Minimum charge on a small jobUsually billed as a 30 m² minimum
Patio, up to 20 m²£90 to £160
Single drive, 30 to 40 m²£100 to £200
Double drive, 50 to 70 m²£150 to £280
Large drive, 90 m² and over£225 to £350

The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Block paving re-sanding, per m²£1.50 to £3
Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m²£4 to £10
Clean and seal together, single drive£200 to £300
Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m²£2 to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Half the drive is old concrete and half is block paving. Is that one job?

One visit, two settings. The concrete run takes more pressure and mostly needs the black film and the moss lifting off it. The blocks take less, and then need their joints refilling, which the concrete never does. The place to look when it is finished is the line where the two meet, because that is usually where the levels differ by a few millimetres and where water stands after rain.

Ours is a shared drive with the house next door. How does that work?

Best treated as one surface on one visit. A shared drive is a single run of paving with an invisible line down the middle of it, so doing your half leaves a colour change your neighbour looks at every morning and a wash line down the centre that never quite disappears. Done together it also costs less each. Agree it between you first, including who is in to move a car.

The blocks have sunk where the car turns in off the road. Will cleaning level them?

No, and it would be wrong to let you think otherwise. Sinking is the bedding layer and the base underneath giving way, usually where a vehicle turns on full lock in the same spot, and that is a lifting and relaying job for a paving contractor. Refilled joints hold the blocks against each other and slow the spread, but they do not raise anything. We point out the sunken area and photograph it before we start.

Where does all the dirty water end up?

Not on the footway and not next door. The slurry off block paving is sand, algae and grit rather than clean water, and it sets like a film wherever it dries, so it gets swept and vacuumed up as we go and the gully gratings are covered before the machine starts. Anything that reaches a drain reaches it after we have taken the solids out, and the run off gets checked before we leave rather than after somebody knocks.

Do you cover the whole of Nuthall?

Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Nuthall?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Nuthall?

Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Easier than most of the patch, and we group Nuthall with Kimberley, Strelley and Bulwell on the rota.
