Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Strelley homes
The hard surface that matters on the estate is behind the houses: a shared garage court of tarmac patched with concrete a bay at a time, falling towards the up and over doors with no gully anywhere in it.
Most of the hard surface here is not a block drive at the front of a house. The estate was built with garage courts behind the terraces, and a court is a shared apron of tarmac patched with concrete a bay at a time as it has failed, so one area is two bound surfaces with different porosity, different colour and a different tolerance for pressure. It also has no gully in it anywhere. The ground falls toward the doors, which is where the water and everything suspended in it wants to go, so the run off is settled before the machine comes off the van. The newer housing has proper block paved drives and those get re-sanded at the end. In the village the frontages are old brick and gravel, and a few of them are effectively the lane.
Strelley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Regular domestic rounds across the estate, tenancy turnarounds on the rented stock arriving singly through the year, and carpet extraction booked more often than in most places we cover, because the ground floors are solid concrete. The village produces a shorter, slower list: cottage deep cleans, and commercial work in the offices fitted into the hall.
What we run into on Strelley driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Oil is the honest conversation on a court. Decades of cars standing in the same bay leave one dark patch per bay, and on tarmac it has soaked in rather than sat on top, because the surface is porous and the binder holding it together is itself a petroleum product. That is why a strong solvent degreaser is the wrong answer: it softens the bitumen and takes the surface away with the stain, leaving a patch rougher and darker than the one you started with. What works is a poultice treatment with dwell time at reduced pressure, and what it does is lighten. Anyone promising a court back to one colour has not looked at the bays.
How a Strelley driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Three practical things decide the day. Water first: we bring our own rather than run a hose out across a court, and on the village frontages there is frequently no outside tap within reach of the work anyway. Second, where the run off goes. A court has no gully, so water finds the fall, which is toward the garage doors and sometimes toward an up and over that does not shut tightly along the bottom. The slurry is swept and vacuumed rather than flushed, and on the lane it does not go onto the road surface or into a neighbour's garden. Third, the timing. Spring is the right point in the year for the growth, and it is also the only stretch when a block paved drive on the newer housing can be re-sanded and left dry, so if you want the joints filled properly, book it into a settled week rather than into November. Cars, bins and anything else standing on the surface have to be off it for the whole session rather than moved as we go, and painted timber and planting alongside get sheeted before the machine starts.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly postwar city estate semis and short terraces along Strelley Road and Flamsteed Road, newer housing around Princess Boulevard, and a small group of listed brick and clay tile cottages in the village itself, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Strelley on the same round as Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton.
What we check on every Strelley job
The finish on a court surprises people, so it is worth saying beforehand. Where a bay has been patched with concrete at some point and the rest of it is still tarmac, the two clean up to completely different colours, and a patch that looked like part of the surface while everything was grey and green stands out as a pale rectangle once the algae has gone. Nobody has done anything wrong. You are simply seeing the repairs for the first time. The other thing that appears is the foot of each door. An up and over sits with its bottom rail close to the ground, and the frame and rail in that last hand's width hold a wet green film all year because nothing down there ever dries. That comes off with detergent and a soft brush rather than the machine, since a lance at door level sends water straight under the panel and into the garage.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Putting it back: Everything we moved put back where it was
- The clean: Slurry swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully or run onto next door's garden
- Before the water goes on: A test patch in a low visibility corner on any stone we have not worked on before
- Putting it back: Drainage channels and gully gratings cleared of what came off the paving
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Strelley
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Strelley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The garage court is shared. Who arranges it?
Whoever wants the work done, and it goes far better if the others know it is happening. Every bay needs to be clear on the day, the water has to run somewhere and the slurry has to be collected, none of which can be worked around a parked car. In practice a note through the doors a week ahead does it. If only one bay and its apron is being paid for, that is what gets cleaned and we say where we stopped.
Will the oil stains come out of the tarmac?
They lighten. Tarmac is porous and bitumen bound, so old oil is in the surface rather than on it, and products strong enough to dissolve it also dissolve what holds the surface together. We use a dwell treatment at reduced pressure and tell you what to expect before starting rather than after. If somebody has quoted you for removing them completely, ask exactly what they intend to put on it.
Can tarmac be pressure washed at all?
At reduced pressure, held moving, and never with a lance parked in one spot. Tarmac is loose stone held in bitumen, and heat and pressure soften the binder, so a machine held too close pulls the stones out and leaves a pit that holds water afterwards. The rotary head is used because it keeps a fixed height and an even dwell right across the area, which is exactly what an arm cannot do. Restoring or recolouring tarmac is not work we take on.
There is no drain in the court. Where does the dirty water end up?
Collected, rather than sent anywhere. What comes off a court is silt, dead algae and whatever has dripped out of the cars, and pushing it toward the lowest point simply parks it against somebody's garage door or on the neighbouring plot. It is swept, vacuumed and taken away with us. Where a court does drain into a grid, that grid is cleared afterwards rather than left holding everything that came off the surface.
Do you cover the whole of Strelley?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Strelley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Strelley?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties, and we group Strelley with Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton on the rota.
