The terrace at the back is crazy paving from when the house was built. Can it be jetted?
Carefully, and with an honest warning first. The mortar between those pieces is old and in places already loose, so a wash does not create the problem but it will certainly find it, and joints will open up that were being held together by the moss growing in them. We go well down on pressure, treat the lichen with a remover and dwell time rather than force, and tell you which joints need pointing. The repointing itself is not our work.
How long before the weeds are back in the block paving?
Longer if the sand goes back properly, which is the part that usually gets skipped. Weeds in block paving grow in the joint material rather than up through the base, so a joint refilled to the top with kiln dried sand, worked down and then topped up again a few days later gives them very little to sit in. Where joints are wide or the drive falls steeply, a jointing compound holds longer. We do not apply weedkillers.
Our drive runs straight into next door's with no line between them. Is that a problem?
Only if nobody mentions it beforehand. Jetting throws spray several feet and slurry does not respect a boundary that is not physically there, so we work from your side outward and stop where the blocks change. Tell your neighbour the day before. Quite often they will want theirs done at the same time, which makes both cheaper and removes the join between clean paving and dirty paving, which is the thing everybody notices afterwards.
Should we seal it once it has been cleaned?
It is worth doing on block paving and on some stone, and it is never done on the same day. The surface has to be dry the whole way through, which after a wash means several dry days rather than one, so it is a return visit. Sand goes into the joints first and the sealer over the top of it. Imprinted concrete is a different case, because what has failed there is the old sealer coat rather than the concrete beneath it.
