Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Attenborough homes
Growth on paving here is algae rather than lichen, because the ground stays damp rather than exposed. It comes off easily and returns quickly, so the interval matters more than the pressure, and worn clay pavers have very little pressure to spare.
What is underfoot in the village splits by age. The cottages have no drive at all: a short path to the front door in worn clay pavers or stone flags, a small yard at the back, and a gravel strip where a car goes if there is room for one. The semis along Attenborough Lane and Barratt Lane have the drives, and a good number are still the original concrete, some of it the two strip sort with a planted middle, widened or block paved over since. Those are three surfaces wanting three different pressures and the oldest of them wants the least. A worn clay paver has a fired face and a soft body, and once the face has gone the paver stays open and greens over faster than the one beside it.
Attenborough sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Regular domestic cleaning is the bulk of it, usually fortnightly in households that are out on the early train. Carpet and upholstery work follows the walking seasons rather than the calendar, and exterior window rounds run shorter here than elsewhere because algae and bird lime return faster on glass this close to water.
What we run into on Attenborough driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Where the water goes gets settled before the machine starts, and here that is not an academic question. Gardens run down toward open water, the gullies at the front feed the same system that takes the lane, and a rotary cleaner puts out a lot of water carrying everything it has just lifted. So the slurry is swept and vacuumed rather than chased into the nearest grating, gratings are covered while the work runs and cleared afterwards, and on a plot that falls toward the house rather than away from it we work in the opposite direction and keep water off the threshold. A fair number of thresholds here sit low, the ground outside standing higher than the floor inside.
How an Attenborough driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
This is a whole day with a vehicle parked, a running hose and a machine audible from several houses away, which on a narrow lane makes it a job to plan rather than to slot in. We take a weekday morning start, we agree in advance where the vehicle stands and where the hose crosses, and where the frontage or the access to it is shared, the neighbour is told before the day rather than finding out on it. Cars come off, bins come off, and anything planted at the edge gets sheeted, because a treatment landing in a border does no good there. Water is the other arrangement and it belongs in the quote: how far the hose has to run to reach the far corner of the paving, and where the machine can stand so that run is not crossing a doorway in use all day. Block paving cannot be re sanded until it has dried, so outside a settled dry spell the sand goes in on a second visit, and that second visit is part of the job rather than an extra somebody mentions afterwards.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly older cottages and larger period houses in the conservation area around the church, interwar and postwar semis along Attenborough Lane and Barratt Lane, and a little later infill toward the water, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Attenborough on the same round as Chilwell, Beeston and Toton.
What we check on every Attenborough job
Silt is the local addition to the usual list. Paving in the lower part of the village takes a fine deposit washed across it in wet weather, and once that has dried in place it forms a skin in the joints and in the texture of the slab that reads as staining rather than as dirt. It lifts with water and dwell time, and it does not want a lance held close, because it is sitting in the very surface it is discolouring. Black spot lichen is the opposite problem and it turns up on the older stone at the front where there is light. That is not pressure work at all: it is a proprietary remover and time, and pressure hard enough to shift black spot will pit the slab all around it. The two frequently sit on the same patio a few metres apart and get treated completely differently on the same day.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Before the water goes on: A test patch in a low visibility corner on any stone we have not worked on before
- The clean: Lance work confined to edges, kerb lines, steps and the corners a rotary physically cannot reach
- The clean: Oil, tyre scuff and leaf tannin staining worked separately, since they are chemistry problems rather than soil
- Putting it back: Kiln-dried sand brushed into block paving joints once the surface has dried
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Attenborough
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Attenborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The paving goes green every year. Is cleaning it money wasted?
No, but buy it as maintenance rather than as a cure. Humidity off the water feeds algae faster here than it does a few streets inland, so growth returns whatever anybody applies, and the honest measure is how the surface looks and how safe it is for the months in between. What we will not do is jet it harder to make it last longer, because that takes the face off the paving and gives the next growth a rougher surface to grip.
Can the gravel be cleaned?
Not with a machine, and anybody who tries will move most of it into your border. Gravel gets raked and topped up, and where it has silted up and stopped draining it is lifted and replaced in the worst areas. If weed and moss are coming through it, the usual cause is a torn membrane below or gravel that has been down long enough to grow its own soil layer in the top. That is groundwork rather than a wash.
Will the wash push water toward the house?
Not if it is planned. We look at the fall before starting, work away from the threshold, cover the door line where the ground outside sits high against it, and keep the run off moving toward a gully already checked as clear. On plots that fall the wrong way we work in sections and clear the water between them rather than opening up the whole area at once. If there is any history of water at the door, say so at the quote and not on the morning.
Should the patio be sealed afterwards?
Only if it is genuinely dry all the way through, which in this village is a harder condition to meet than it sounds. A sealer traps whatever moisture is under it and can turn a slab milky, and on paving sitting on damp ground beside open water that is a real risk rather than a theoretical one. It is a separate return visit after several dry days, never the same day, and on some surfaces here we will tell you it is not worth doing.
Do you cover the whole of Attenborough?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Attenborough?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Attenborough?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Lanes here are narrow and the reserve car park fills at weekends, so visits are booked for the morning, and we group Attenborough with Chilwell, Beeston and Toton on the rota.
