Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Kimberley homes
The slope decides this before the surface does, because everything that comes off a drive here goes downhill to whoever lives below you. Block paving on a gradient also loses its jointing sand from the top of the drive first.
Three different grounds, and the gradient sits underneath all of them. The terraces near the centre have no drive at all, just a small back yard and a shared passage, usually concrete or old brick paviors with a gully in one corner. The interwar semis were built with two concrete ribbons running to a garage at the side, and most have since been widened or block paved across the front garden. The estate houses have block paving or tarmac, and a good number share a drive down the middle with next door. On a hill, none of that is a purely cosmetic decision, because a wash sends several hundred litres of dirty water somewhere, and somewhere is downhill.
Kimberley sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Regular fortnightly cleaning is the bulk of it, in family houses where the adults commute into the city. Deep cleans cluster in March and before Christmas. End of tenancy work comes off the rented stock near the centre, and it is family lets rather than students, so the calendar stays even across the year.
What we run into on Kimberley driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Block paving laid on a slope loses its jointing sand unevenly, and once you know the pattern you can read a drive from the pavement. The joints at the top are open and dark, sometimes with a seedling in them, because rain has carried the sand down the fall for years. At the bottom, against the kerb or the edge course, there is a raised ridge of the same sand with moss in it. Cleaning that drive without re-sanding it makes the top half worse immediately, because the blocks up there have little holding them and a car turns on them daily. The sand goes back in stages, and the top of a sloping drive takes more than the bottom.
How a Kimberley driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Everything about booking this here comes back to where the water ends up. A wash produces a great deal of dirty water and on a gradient it does not sit still, so before anything starts we work out the fall, cover the gullies and the thresholds, and decide where the slurry is being collected rather than letting it find the lowest point on its own. That lowest point is often a neighbour's drive or a garden below yours, and it is not our water to send there. The practical asks are short. We need an outside tap or somewhere to draw from, cars and bins off the surface for the day, and a route to the back that does not run through the house if the patio is behind. On a shared drive we want both households to know it is happening. Weather matters twice over: block paving cannot be re-sanded while it is wet, so outside a dry spell the sand goes in on a second visit, and sealing needs several dry days after that. Spring is the sensible booking, when the winter growth is at its worst and there is drying weather ahead rather than behind.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly red brick terraces on the streets climbing away from the town centre, interwar semis along Nottingham Road, and estates from the 1970s onward filling the gaps out toward the A610, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Kimberley on the same round as Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough.
What we check on every Kimberley job
A lot of the interwar drives here are two surfaces pretending to be one. The original was a pair of concrete ribbons running to a garage at the side with grass or gravel down the middle, and at some point the middle was filled and the front garden was paved across, usually in blocks. That leaves a seam where old concrete meets newer paving, and the two want different treatment. Concrete takes real pressure and lifts fairly evenly. Blocks take less, and they lose jointing sand as soon as the lance gets close. The seam itself collects silt and holds moss because the levels rarely match exactly. So the rotary head crosses the concrete first, the blocks are done at reduced pressure, and the joint is worked by hand rather than blasted. The garage end is where the oil is, and oil is chemistry and dwell time rather than pressure.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The clean: Slurry swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully or run onto next door's garden
- The clean: Pressure and nozzle set to the surface, well down on sandstone, limestone and porcelain from what concrete takes
- Before the water goes on: Sunken blocks, rocking slabs and failed edge kerbs pointed out before we start rather than blamed on the wash afterwards
- Before the water goes on: Gullies, air bricks and door thresholds covered, and the route the water will take worked out before it starts taking it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Kimberley
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Kimberley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We share a drive with next door. Does that complicate it?
Only the conversation, not the work. A shared drive is one surface and it cleans as one, so a half done down the middle looks worse than leaving it, and the join is visible from the road for years. Speak to your neighbour before booking, agree whether it is being split or one of you is paying, and tell us which half is yours if there is a boundary in the deeds. Cars need to be off both sides for the day.
The back yard has one gully and nothing else. Is that a problem?
It is the thing we check first. A yard with a single gully takes everything a wash produces, and if that gully is already half silted the water backs up against the house wall rather than draining. We clear the grating first, vacuum the slurry rather than flushing it down there, and keep the wash away from the airbrick and the door threshold. If the gully will not take clean water freely, we say so before the machine comes off the van.
Where does all the dirty water go?
Into a collection rather than down the hill. What comes off a drive is silt, dead algae, moss and whatever the cars have dropped, and it is swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully, which then blocks, or run onto the property below yours. Surface water drains generally go to a watercourse rather than to treatment, which is the reason this matters beyond neighbourly manners. On a sloping site we set the collection at the low edge before the machine starts.
The back yard is brick paviors, not slabs. Same job?
Same principle, lower pressure, and more care about the joints. Old brick paviors are softer than modern blocks and the mortar or sand between them is usually failing already, so a lance held close will take the face off a brick and empty the joints in a single pass. We use the rotary head across the open area, keep the lance for the edges, and tell you before we start if any of the paviors are already spalling, since a wash reveals that rather than causing it.
Do you cover the whole of Kimberley?
Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Kimberley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Kimberley?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Kerbside parking on the terraced streets, with the town centre itself pinched at lunchtime, and we group Kimberley with Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough on the rota.
