Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Trowell homes
Most frontages here are three surfaces pretending to be one, and gravel is not washable at all. The bigger constraint is drainage: plenty of these plots have no gully, so the slurry has nowhere to go but into a bag.
Frontages here are rarely one surface. The common version is an original concrete apron running to a garage, gravel spread over the rest of it at some point, and a block paved section added later where the front lawn used to be. Each wants a different answer and one of them wants none at all, because gravel cannot be washed. It can only be raked, topped up or lifted and relaid. The bigger constraint is where the water ends up. Plenty of these plots have no gully anywhere on them, and the fall carries surface water to the road, into a verge or into a ditch on the boundary. That decides the method before anything is switched on, because slurry off a drive is not clean water and a ditch out here runs somewhere.
Trowell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Fortnightly domestic rounds carry the week, in houses where both adults drive out of the village to work and the housework has been compressed into Saturday. Deep cleans cluster in April, once the wet half of the year has finished putting soil through the house. Window cleaning is the third string and the demand for it is openly seasonal.
What we run into on Trowell driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Back patios here take weather from an open direction with nothing to break it, and what grows on them is lichen as much as moss. It shows as flat black discs bonded into the face of the slab, worst on the side looking at open ground, and pressure does not lift it. People try, and what they get is a slab with a clean ring around each spot where the surrounding surface has been eroded down and the spot itself still sitting proud of it. It wants a proprietary remover and time, usually several weeks of weather after it goes on rather than an afternoon, and that is worth saying at the quote rather than on the day.
How a Trowell driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Two practical things and one courtesy. The first is water. A rotary surface cleaner drinks a good deal more than a lance does, and a long hose off a low flow tap starves it, which shows up as banding across the finished surface rather than as anything obvious while it is happening, so we need to know which tap we are on and roughly how far it is from the work. The second is the drive being empty for the day, which out here means the household's cars have to go somewhere and the honest answer is that the road is the only alternative, so pick a day when one of them is out anyway. The courtesy is the boundary. Frontages on these estates run into one another with no fence and often no kerb between them, so slurry and displaced sand will cross onto next door unless it is contained and swept back as we go, and we would rather tell the neighbour what is about to happen than apologise for it afterwards. Sand goes back into block joints once the surface has dried through, which is usually a separate call rather than the same afternoon.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly older brick houses and a few cottages along the main road through the village, postwar semis on the estates set behind it, and later closes edging out toward the open fields, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Trowell on the same round as Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall.
What we check on every Trowell job
A block drive that has had the same car standing on it for years does not weather evenly, and you can read the parking pattern straight off it. The two wheel tracks are pale and worn smooth, the strip between them is green because nothing ever runs over it and it holds damp, and there is a darker patch where the engine sits. Washing sharpens those differences before it settles them: the green strip comes up brightest, the worn tracks come back dullest because the texture has gone off the surface of the block, and the oil patch stays put until it is treated as chemistry rather than as dirt. That is worth knowing beforehand rather than afterwards, because somebody expecting one even colour will look at a clean drive and see three. Sand brushed back down into the joints evens out how it wears from there, and it matters most on the wheel lines.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Putting it back: Kiln-dried sand brushed into block paving joints once the surface has dried
- The clean: The run-off checked before we leave, not after somebody complains
- The clean: Slurry swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully or run onto next door's garden
- The clean: Oil, tyre scuff and leaf tannin staining worked separately, since they are chemistry problems rather than soil
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Trowell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Trowell
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Trowell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can the gravel be done at the same time?
Not washed, no. Gravel has nothing to wash: what makes it look tired is stone that has bedded down into the ground beneath it, with the gaps between filled by fines and leaf litter. Raking it out, topping it up and, where it has gone into the soil, lifting and relaying it over a membrane is landscaping rather than cleaning. What we will do is keep the wash off it, because slurry driven into gravel is precisely what fills it.
Where does the dirty water go if there is no drain on our frontage?
It gets contained and swept up rather than sent anywhere. Slurry off a drive carries silt, moss and whatever chemistry was used on it, and on a plot that falls to a verge or a boundary ditch there is nowhere for that to go which is not somebody's ground or a watercourse. So the route the water will take is worked out before the machine starts, thresholds and gully gratings get covered, and the slurry is swept and vacuumed up.
The patio has black spots that will not come off. Would more pressure work?
No, and it will cost you the slab. Those spots are lichen bonded into the surface, and pressure high enough to reach into the stone erodes everything around a spot before it touches the spot itself, so what you end up with is a pitted slab with the marks still in it. It is a chemistry job: a proprietary remover, dwell time, and in most cases several weeks of weather afterwards before it has fully gone. Slow, and the only method that leaves the slab intact.
Will the weeds come back after the wash?
Yes, unless the joint is filled. Washing takes the growth off and leaves everything below the surface exactly where it was, and no pressure washer changes that. Killing what is left is a plant protection product, and only somebody holding a certificate of competence may apply one, so ask any contractor which product they intend to use and to see the certificate. The practical control we can offer is a filled joint: kiln dried sand worked down in stages, or a jointing compound where joints are wide.
Do you cover the whole of Trowell?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Trowell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Trowell?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Off street space at nearly every house, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Trowell with Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall on the rota.
