Laundry & Ironing for Forest Fields homes

The customer here is usually one person in one room rather than a household, so it is a bag and a count sheet per tenant, and a return that cannot simply be left inside a front door six people share.

Laundry sells to individuals on these streets rather than to families, and that changes the paperwork more than it changes the washing. Six people in a house means six accounts, six bags and six count sheets, and a bag returned to the wrong person is a complaint rather than an inconvenience. So everything is labelled to a name, and to a room number where the house uses them, counted at the door, and handed to whoever booked it or to somebody they have named to us. Nothing is left in a shared hall. The other buyer here is the short let flat in a converted house, which wants counted linen sets on a rotation rather than a weekly wash, so a changeover never has to wait on a machine cycle.

Forest Fields sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are the Forest Recreation Ground, Goose Fair week, the Forest tram stop and Gregory Boulevard, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Forest Fields laundry & ironing jobs

A single person's bag out of a let room is a mixed load and that is worth saying out loud at the door. Bedding, towels, work clothes and a fortnight of everything else arrive together, because the person filling it has one bag and one week's worth of thinking. Sorted properly at the machine that becomes three or four separate washes at different temperatures, which is the whole point of sending it out, but it also means a same day turnaround is rarely realistic on a bag that size. The other regular is a double duvet pushed in at the top, and we take that back out at the door and explain why rather than finding it at the machine.

How a Forest Fields laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collections here run as a street round rather than as individual visits, because a van cannot be repositioned every few doors on a terrace where the kerb is contested from mid morning. We stop once, work a run of houses on foot, and give you a slot rather than a time. That is why the booking asks which street you are on and which bell is yours, since a converted house can have four bells and no numbers on any of them. Returns run the same way on the same day of the week, and that is what makes the count sheets work, because the bag coming back is checked against the collection sheet at the door rather than later. Two things move the round. Bin day fills the pavement on a street where there is nowhere else for bins to go, and Goose Fair fortnight fills the streets nearest the Forest from mid morning, so those collections go earlier or shift by a day, and we tell you in advance. If you work a shift pattern, say so at the start and we will fix the slot around it instead of knocking and hoping.

Who books it here

Single room check-outs run all year rather than bunching into one summer fortnight, because tenancies here start on whatever date a room fell empty. Landlords book whole house resets between the bigger changeovers, and the households who stay put want a fortnightly visit that keeps the shared kitchen from becoming an argument.

We run Forest Fields on the same round as Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford.

What we check on every Forest Fields job

The count sheet is the part of this service that actually protects you, and in a shared house it does more work than anywhere else. Everything is counted onto it at the door, you keep a copy, and anything already holed, stained or missing a button is written down before it leaves the house. The same sheet is counted back on return. Where several people in one house use the service, every bag is labelled and run as its own load rather than combined, because the cheap way of doing it is to put two people's washing through together and the cost of that is one grey shirt and an argument on a landing. We check pockets and turn out cuffs before anything goes in, which is where the pens, the tissues and the room key are, and a room key through a hot wash and a dryer is a locksmith rather than a laundry. Care labels set the temperature, not one setting for the whole bag.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
  • Ironing: Bed linen and duvet covers, slow work and priced separately from clothes
  • Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Forest Fields

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Forest Fields. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Laundry & Ironingin Forest Fields

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Where do you leave it if I am at work?

Not in the hall. In a house let room by room the hall belongs to everybody and nothing left there is safe, so the options are a return slot when you are in, a housemate or neighbour you have named to us, or a key safe where the landlord has fitted one and you are content for us to use it. Whichever you pick goes on the account, so the same thing happens every week rather than being decided on the doorstep.

Can several of us in the house share one collection?

Yes, and it makes the round work better on a street where the van can only stop once. Each person keeps a separate bag, a separate count sheet and a separate account, so nothing gets mixed, but the collection and the return happen in a single visit at a time everybody has agreed. One of you needs to be the person who opens the door, and if nobody can be, a fixed early evening slot usually solves it.

I have nowhere to dry anything. Is that what this is for?

Largely, yes, and it is the reason most people on these streets start using it. Everything comes back dry, folded and bagged, or on hangers under a cover where it has been ironed, so nothing has to go on an airer in the room you sleep in. The practical gain is that the moisture stops going into a small bedroom with a restricted window, which over a winter is worth more to the room than the folding is worth to you.

Can you do the bedding for let rooms on a rotation?

Yes, and it works best with counted sets rather than one set per bed. Two or three sets per room means a changeover never waits on a wash, and we hold the count, so you know what is in circulation and what has gone missing. Tell us the number of rooms and the bed sizes at the start. What we cannot take is a king or super king duvet, or a feather one of any size, and we say so rather than take the money.

Do you cover the whole of Forest Fields?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Forest Fields?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Forest Fields?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Parking is on-street with cars nose to tail both sides, and the shared back entries are often the easier way in with equipment, and we group Forest Fields with Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford on the rota.
