Laundry & Ironing for Dunkirk homes

One machine in the rear addition and six people queueing for it. What sells on these streets is a counted linen rotation for let rooms and a weekly bag for somebody on a hospital rota, not a family service wash.

Two quite different customers buy this here and they want opposite things. The first is a landlord or an agent running bed linen through a set of let rooms, where the work is a counted rotation against a room list and the point of it is that a made up set is ready for the next arrival. The second is somebody on a hospital or laboratory rota who will not be at home when a machine finishes and who is sharing one appliance in a rear addition with five other people. Neither of those is a family service wash. What they do have in common is that nobody in the property is in at a predictable hour, so the collection and return arrangement is settled once at the start and then left alone.

Dunkirk sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are the QMC, Clifton Boulevard, Highfields Park and the Nottingham Science Park on University Boulevard, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Dunkirk laundry & ironing jobs

There is nowhere on these streets to leave a bag. The front door of a terrace opens straight onto the pavement with no porch and no side gate, and the hallway inside a let house is a space six people and their visitors walk through all day. Clean laundry left inside that door is not left anywhere private, and it is a few minutes walk from a main road that carries a lot of people who are not going to any of these houses. So we do not do doorstep drops here. Collection and return go hand to hand at an agreed time, into a nominated room, or through the landlord or agent on a set day.

How a Dunkirk laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collections here are a fixed few minutes at an agreed time, not a call ahead when we are outside. The bays are permit controlled and full by the middle of the morning with cars belonging to people who have driven in and walked on to the hospital, so a van cannot sit at your kerb waiting for somebody to find their bag. Have it by the door at the time you agreed. The morning of a collection day is the one slot to avoid, because with no front gardens the bins stand in the entry or come through the house, and an entry with four wheeled bins in it is not a route anybody is carrying laundry along. Volumes here run small and frequent rather than large and weekly, which suits people living in one room and sharing everything else. The summer weeks are the exception, when let rooms change hands across a few days and every set of linen in a house needs turning round at once. Those dates want booking well ahead, because they are the same dates as everything else we do here.

Who books it here

Summer turnarounds dominate, and they arrive all at once as the shared houses empty. Around that sit landlord deep cleans booked before a September intake, carpet extraction on the hall run while the house is finally empty, and a smaller year-round strand of work for hospital staff and science park tenants.

We run Dunkirk on the same round as Lenton, The Park Estate and Beeston.

What we check on every Dunkirk job

How a bag arrives tells you most of what we need to know. The recurring one on these streets is a bin liner knotted shut with damp towels inside it since the day before, which by the time it reaches us has started to smell of mildew and needs washing hot rather than at the temperature on the label. So we open and check bags at collection instead of at the machine, and we say then if something needs a different cycle. The same check catches what goes straight back: a king or feather duvet, which will not move in a domestic drum, a broken zip that turns into a torn sleeve at full spin, and anything from a laboratory or carrying biological contamination. A hospital uniform is a separate question and the answer belongs to the employer, since trusts set their own laundering policy, and we work to that and to the care label rather than to whatever is convenient.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Ironing: Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, school uniform and workwear
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Washed at the temperature on the care label, not one temperature for everything
  • Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Dunkirk property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What laundry & ironing costs in Dunkirk

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Dunkirk. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Laundry & Ironingin Dunkirk

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Six of us share one machine. Is sending it out actually sensible?

For towels and bedding, usually yes, because those are what block a shared machine for a whole evening and what nobody wants to hang up indoors. Everyday clothes are often better kept at home. Weigh a normal week's washing before deciding, since the service wash is charged by weight and a realistic figure beats a guess. We will tell you if what you are describing is not worth sending.

Can you take our bedding for the let rooms and nothing else?

Yes, and for landlords that is the common arrangement. Linen and towels go on a counted rotation tagged by room, so a full set comes back for each bed rather than a mixed pile somebody has to sort. Tell us how many rooms and how many sets you own, because two sets per bed is what lets one be away being washed while the other is on the bed.

Nobody will be in when you come back with it. Where does it go?

Somewhere agreed in advance, and not inside a shared front door. In a let house the hallway is used by everyone in the building and their visitors, so we return either hand to hand at a set time, into a room you have nominated and given us access to, or to the landlord or agent. Tell us which of those it is at the start and it stops being a question every week.

Everything in the bag looks like everybody else's. How do you keep it straight?

By counting it in front of you at collection and putting the same count sheet back in the bag. Items are folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works, which in a shared property is the difference between a return that ends the matter and one that starts an argument in the kitchen. Linen for let rooms is tagged by room rather than mixed into one pile.

Do you cover the whole of Dunkirk?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Dunkirk?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Dunkirk?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Resident permit bays, filled through the day by people who have driven to the hospital and walked the rest, and we group Dunkirk with Lenton, The Park Estate and Beeston on the rota.
