Laundry & Ironing for Radford homes

One machine for six people and no dryer, so washing dries on airers in bedrooms and the water goes back into a house that already has condensation. The queue is what people are actually buying out of.

The buyer here is not a household with a machine that has broken. It is a house with one machine and six people, where the constraint is the queue and the drying rather than the washing. A terrace let by the room has a single appliance in the back kitchen, no dryer, and a yard that is shaded most of the day and shared with the bins, so nothing goes on a line. What happens instead is airers in bedrooms and on the landing, and every load dried that way puts its water straight back into a house that is already fighting condensation on the window reveals. Sending it out is the only version of this that removes the moisture rather than moving it.

Radford sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are the Raleigh site redevelopment, Radford Road and Forest Fields, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Radford laundry & ironing jobs

Collection is the part that goes wrong in a house let by the room, and it is a doorstep problem rather than a laundry one. The front door opens onto the pavement with no porch and nowhere safe to leave a bag, the bell is often one button for six people, and a bag left in the hall gets moved or opened by whoever passes it. So the arrangement is a named person, a fixed slot and a counted sheet signed at the door, or a key safe and a bag left inside the front room rather than in the hall. Workwear goes in its own bag, separately counted, because it never comes back on the same rota as bedding.

How a Radford laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collections here run on a fixed weekday slot in the morning, for the same reason everything else does: the kerb is available before the row fills up again and the house is at its quietest. What is different from a household round is that the address is not one customer. Six people in a terrace may be six separate accounts on one doorstep, which works fine as long as one of them is the contact and the bags are labelled before we arrive. Bags go straight into the van rather than standing on the pavement, and nothing is left outside a door on return. Where nobody will be in, the bag goes inside the front room, never in the shared hall. The other pattern is the small commercial customer, the trade counters and workshops on the industrial edges, who send workwear on a weekly cycle and want it back on a specific day rather than within a window. Those collections happen at their premises before opening, on the same visit as the cleaning where they buy both.

Who books it here

Landlord and agent work, mostly to a tight void between one tenancy ending and the next starting. Speed matters more here than anywhere else we work.

We run Radford on the same round as Hyson Green, Lenton and New Basford.

What we check on every Radford job

The count sheet is the whole procedure and in a shared house it earns its keep weekly. Everything is counted at the door onto a sheet with the bag owner's name on it, you keep a copy, and anything already holed, bobbled or missing a button is written down before it leaves the address. Socks are counted in pairs and singles separately, because a single sock is the item most often reported missing and almost always turns up inside a fitted sheet. Bedding is counted by piece rather than by set. On the return the same sheet is counted back on the doorstep rather than after we have gone. In a house where six people wash separately, the sheet is also what stops one person's dark load being blamed for another person's dyed shirt, since the load, the date and the temperature are all recorded against the bag rather than against the house.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Ironing: Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, school uniform and workwear
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Bags weighed at collection, with the weight and the price confirmed before anything is washed
  • Ironing: Steam on the reverse of anything that shines, and a pressing cloth on wool
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Radford

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Radford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Laundry & Ironingin Radford

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Six of us share the house. Can we each send our own?

Yes, and it works far better than one combined bag. Each person gets their own bag, their own count sheet and their own price by weight, so nobody is subsidising the housemate who sends towels. What we ask for is one collection slot for the address rather than six, because a van stopping at the same door six times on one street is how a fixed weekly round stops being fixed.

Is this cheaper than the launderette down the road?

Not the point to compare on. A launderette costs you the machine time plus the two hours you sit with it, and it still leaves you carrying a wet bag home if the dryers are busy. Collection removes the trip and the drying. Where a launderette genuinely wins is a king duvet or a heavily soiled work jacket, both of which we turn away and tell you to take there.

Nobody is reliably in during the day. How does return work?

Two workable answers. Either the bag goes back to a named housemate on a slot they have agreed, or you leave us a way in and it goes inside the front room with the sheet on top of it. What does not work on a street like this is leaving a bag behind the bin or in the entry, and we will not do it, because a laundry bag on a terraced street does not stay where it was put.

We run a workshop and the overalls come back covered in oil. Can you take those?

Not into a service wash, and it is worth knowing why rather than being told no. Oil, solvent and paint contaminated workwear needs an industrial laundry with the right process and its own waste route, and putting one oily overall through a domestic drum contaminates every load after it. What we will take from a workshop is the ordinary side of it: polo shirts, aprons, towels, counter cloths and hand towels, on a weekly cycle.

Do you cover the whole of Radford?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Radford?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Radford?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. On-street, generally available outside commuting hours, and we group Radford with Hyson Green, Lenton and New Basford on the rota.
