Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Daybrook homes
Pairs of semis share one strip of concrete between them, block paved on one side only more often than not. Jetting half a shared drive puts slurry on the other half, so the neighbour belongs in the booking.
Drives on these streets began as two concrete ribbons running between a pair of semis to garages at the back, and few have stayed that way. One owner block paves their half, the other keeps the concrete, and the boundary becomes a joint down the middle with two surfaces at different heights wanting different treatment. That has to be settled before any water goes on, because concrete takes pressure that a sandstone edging or tired pointing will not, and one setting run across the full width is how a drive ends up striped. The fall is the other constant. Daybrook sits at the bottom of the dip on the main road, so these fronts drain toward a threshold as often as toward the pavement, and where the water finishes up matters more than the finish on the blocks.
Daybrook sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. Fortnightly domestic visits in the semis make up most of the round. Deep cleans here tend to be booked around a move rather than to a season, either before a house goes on the market or in the empty week after completion. Window cleaning is the third, and it is the front elevation that sells it.
What we run into on Daybrook driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Slurry is the part nobody pictures. Cleaning block paving lifts a grey soup of sand, moss and biofilm, and it travels whichever way the surface falls, which on this ground means toward a front door or toward the next property along. We cover the air bricks and the threshold before starting, work across the fall rather than down it, and sweep and vacuum that slurry up instead of flushing it into the nearest gully. Sand goes back into the joints only once the surface has dried, brushed in and topped up in stages. Scattered once and swept off in a single pass, it leaves the joints half full and the blocks free to rock underfoot.
How a Daybrook driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
The practical questions are where the water goes and where the machine stands. A pressure washer has to sit close to the surface it is cleaning, so a front drive is simple and a rear patio on a terrace is not, since the hose runs either through the house or down a shared entry and both want agreeing first. On the front the cars come off, and on a shared strip that means both cars. Bins go elsewhere for the day. Painted timber, planting at the edges and anything rendered gets sheeted before we start rather than rinsed afterwards. Weather counts for more than people expect. Block paving cannot have its sand back until the surface has dried out, so a wash in a wet week is a wash plus a return visit for the sand, and sealing is always a separate day on a properly dry surface whatever the forecast says. Early autumn is the better booking on this ground anyway, since a drive cleaned then holds through the winter, and one cleaned in spring has already carried the worst of the year.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly interwar bay-fronted semis on the roads off Mansfield Road, a run of older terraces near the brewery site, and postwar and modern infill filling the gaps between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Daybrook on the same round as Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood.
What we check on every Daybrook job
Every time a front gets redone the level goes up. Concrete over the original path, block paving over the concrete, a bed of sharp sand under that, and after two rounds the paving sits a course or two below the damp proof course and hard against the threshold. That is why the covering happens before the water does. A rotary surface cleaner throws water sideways as well as down, and on a front falling toward the house it finds an air brick, a door track or the gap under a threshold strip, and the water goes inside instead of out to the road. We check the levels first, cover what needs it, and work the last stretch nearest the house with the lance rather than the rotary. The wash exposes the joint sand too. On this low ground the grit washing off the road ends up in the joints, so what comes out is finer and darker than kiln dried sand and the joints need topping up more than once.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Before the water goes on: Imprinted concrete flagged as a sealer job rather than a jetting job, because what has failed there is the sealer coat, not the concrete under it
- Putting it back: Kiln-dried sand brushed into block paving joints once the surface has dried
- The clean: Rotary surface cleaner across the open area, which is what keeps every pass even
- Before the water goes on: The surface identified: block paving, pressed concrete slab, natural stone, porcelain, imprinted concrete or tarmac, because pressure and chemistry both follow from that
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Daybrook
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Daybrook. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The drive is shared with next door. What has to be sorted out first?
Tell them the day, and agree how much of the width is being done. Water, slurry and spray take no notice of a boundary nobody has ever marked, so cleaning one half and stopping at an invisible line is awkward to do and worse to look at. Most neighbours would sooner the whole strip went at once and settled the arrangement between themselves. Cars have to come off both halves either way.
The back patio went black over the winter. Will jetting shift it?
Green algae comes off with the wash. Black spot is lichen, it is rooted into the surface, and pressure high enough to remove it will take the face off a slab first. That wants a proprietary remover and dwell time, sometimes over two visits. We do not apply professional use weedkillers or moss killers, because those require a certificate of competence to use, so what comes off is what the wash and the treatment take off.
Ours is imprinted concrete and it has gone patchy. Can you clean it?
We can wash it, but patchiness on imprinted concrete is almost always the sealer coat breaking down rather than dirt on top of it, and jetting a failed sealer takes more of it off. That is a resealing job, and recolouring or resealing imprinted concrete is not something we take on. We will tell you which you are looking at before quoting, because paying for a wash that cannot fix the thing you dislike helps nobody.
Can you seal the block paving once you have cleaned it?
Not on the same day, whatever the weather is doing. Sealing a surface that still holds water traps it underneath and the finish clouds or lifts, so it is quoted as a return visit once the paving is dry right through. The joints come first as well: kiln dried sand brushed in and topped up in stages, or a jointing compound where the joints are wide, on a slope or growing weeds faster than you want to keep dealing with.
Do you cover the whole of Daybrook?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Daybrook?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Daybrook?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied, and we group Daybrook with Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood on the rota.
