Mattress Cleaning for Bingham homes

New houses come with new beds: one sided pillowtop mattresses on storage bases that sit flat on the carpet with no air under them. The older streets have turnable sprung mattresses and a stair that will not take a king.

People who move into a new house tend to buy a new bed for it, and a mattress bought recently is almost certainly one sided. There is a pillowtop or a thick quilted comfort layer built onto the sleeping face, no handles down the sides, and a label that says rotate rather than turn, so every night of its life has landed on the same surface. The beds in the older streets are frequently the reverse: sprung mattresses with side handles that somebody has turned twice a year for a decade, carrying their soiling spread across two faces instead of concentrated on one. The same booking reads completely differently on the two.

Bingham sits in NG13, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. A market town where a large share of the housing is younger than the person living in it. The middle is old brick and stone round a market place; the edges are estates handed over in the last few years. Those two halves fail in opposite directions and want opposite methods.

What we run into on Bingham mattress cleaning jobs

Bedrooms on the newer plots are tight, so a good many of the beds are storage bases: an ottoman lifting on gas struts, or a divan with drawers cut into the sides. Both change what is happening underneath. A legged divan stands clear of the floor and air moves under it. An ottoman is a closed box resting flat on the carpet along a continuous rail, packed with spare bedding and a spare duvet, and nothing beneath it moves at all. Lift one and the carpet under it is a different shade from the rest of the room, and the inside of the box smells of what has been shut in it.

How a Bingham mattress cleaning job actually runs

Book it for a morning, because the bed is not usable that evening and somebody has to decide in advance where they are sleeping. Airflow is the local complication. Upstairs windows on the newer plots are fitted with opening restrictors, so the window will not go far enough to move much air on its own, and what actually works is the bedroom door wedged open with the landing window open across from it, plus our own air mover running across the surface. The older houses have the opposite trouble: a back bedroom that nobody heats, where the radiator has been off since spring and the room is several degrees colder than the rest of the house. Put the heating on in there the night before and it halves the drying. The stairs decide the rest. Almost every house here turns its staircase at least once, usually with a fixed handrail on the turn, and a king mattress will not make that without being bent, which is exactly what a foam one should not have done to it. The bed is cleaned where it stands, in the room, every time.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly older brick and a little stone round the market place, Victorian and interwar streets behind it, postwar semis further out, and very large estates of new houses still going up on every edge, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Bingham on the same round as Radcliffe on Trent, Cotgrave and Burton Joyce.

What we check on every Bingham job

In a small bedroom the bed is against a wall down one long side, and that side is where the work is. The seam, the piping and the handle recess on the wall side are never stripped properly, never vacuumed and never seen, so the debris that a made bed sheds every night collects along one edge and stays there. It is usually visibly different from the seam on the open side. The second thing is the ensuite, which on many of the newer plots opens within a stride of the head of the bed. Every time that door opens after a shower the room takes the moisture with it, and the first surface it reaches is the head end of the mattress and the fabric of the headboard. That is why the top third of a bed in a room with an ensuite feels different to the hand from the foot end, and why the headboard is worth doing with the bed rather than left off the job.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Stains and odour: Enzymatic pre-treatment for urine, which breaks down the uric acid crystals a detergent leaves behind
  • The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave
  • The mattress itself: Low moisture agitation, with extraction only where the soiling justifies it
  • The mattress itself: HEPA vacuum over both faces, the sides, seams, piping and handles

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Bingham property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What mattress cleaning costs in Bingham

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Bingham. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The label says rotate, not turn. What does that change?

It concentrates everything. A one sided mattress takes every night on the same face, and that face has a thick soft comfort layer built into it rather than a plain ticking, so it absorbs more and holds it further down. It also dries more slowly, because moisture has to come back up through that layer rather than off a firm surface. Rotating end to end still matters, and it is worth doing every few months whether or not the bed is being cleaned.

Our bed is a storage ottoman. Does that make it a bigger job?

It adds work rather than difficulty. The lid has to be raised and propped, the contents come out so the lining and the base board can be vacuumed, and the box is left open afterwards to air rather than dropped shut on a clean mattress. It also wants moving off its footprint, because a rail sitting flat on carpet with no gap under it keeps that strip permanently unaired. Tell us it is an ottoman when you book so the time is right.

It is a let and the tenancy ends next week. Is it worth doing before the check out?

Usually, and the timing is the thing. Mattress condition is one of the lines an inventory clerk records in words and photographs, and staining that was not on the check in report is a deduction. It needs a clear day between the clean and the appointment so the bed is dry and can be made up, which means booking it before the removals rather than after them. Where a mark will lighten rather than clear, we say so beforehand so the report is not a surprise.

Can you do both beds and the carpets in the same visit?

Yes, and it is the sensible way round if you are having floors done anyway, because the machine and the drying setup are already in the house. The order is beds first, then floors, so nothing walks across a damp carpet carrying a mattress. Allow for the whole upstairs being out of use for the afternoon rather than one room. On the newer plots with bedrooms on more than one level, tell us which floors, since that changes the setting up more than the number of beds does.

Do you cover the whole of Bingham?

Yes, all of NG13 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Bingham?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Bingham?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. On the newer estates the road is often unadopted and missing from a satnav, so a plot number and a description of the house find us the door faster than a postcode, and we group Bingham with Radcliffe on Trent, Cotgrave and Burton Joyce on the rota.
