Is there anything left from the pit that affects cleaning?
Not in the ground. The colliery closed a long time ago and the site was reclaimed, which is what the country park is. What shows up is inside the houses instead, because they were heated with solid fuel first: an open hearth behind a boxed-in fireplace, a flue that was capped rather than removed, and the brick store at the back that used to hold the coal. Those hold fine ash and it travels when disturbed.
