Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Cotgrave homes
Carpet over a concrete slab has nowhere to dry downwards, so moisture leaves upwards or not at all. That decides the dwell time and the pass rate here, and it is why over-wetting shows up as a smell weeks later.
Two things set this apart from a Victorian house with boards under the carpet. The first is that most of these floors are solid, so the only way moisture leaves a carpet is upwards through the pile. On a suspended timber floor a little over-wetting is forgiven by the air moving underneath. Here it is not, and it comes back as a smell a fortnight later rather than a wet patch on the day. So the method is more dry work, less water and a slower extraction pass rather than a wetter one. The second is what is actually in the pile, which is dog. The country park is where the village walks, and those paths stay wet through most of the winter.
Cotgrave sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly 1960s estate housing built in one go for the colliery, a small old village core around the church, and newer estates put up on and beside the reclaimed pit land, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Cotgrave carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Gripper rods are worth knowing about, because on a solid floor they are fixed into the screed at the edge of the room and they rust once they get wet. Extraction taken too close to the perimeter, or a carpet over-wetted at some point in the past, leaves a brown line an inch in from the skirting that people take for dirt and that no amount of cleaning shifts, because it is oxide sitting in the fibre. We work the edges with a hand tool rather than running the wand into them, and we look along the perimeter before starting so a mark that was already there is on record rather than in dispute.
How a Cotgrave carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Doing this in an occupied house is mostly a logistics problem. The machine stays in the van and the hoses run in through the front door, so that door stands open while we work and the run has to reach. On a property set back behind a green with shared parking bays, that is the first thing we check at the booking stage, which is why we ask which way the house faces and where a vehicle can stand. Inside, the furniture sets the sequence. We shift what can be moved safely and work around anything on legs with protectors under the feet, but a full wardrobe or a piano stays where it is and the carpet is cleaned up to it. Timing matters more than people expect. A carpet done first thing has the whole day with the heating on low and the windows vented, whereas the same carpet done late in the afternoon sits damp overnight in a shut house, and that is where smells begin. Through the colder months we put these jobs in the morning for exactly that reason.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly cleaning across the estate and the newer houses, deep cleans booked when a property changes hands or when an extension or loft conversion is finished, and carpet extraction more often than most rounds, because a lot of these households have a dog and a country park at the end of the road.
We run Cotgrave on the same round as Edwalton, Keyworth and Gamston.
What we check on every Cotgrave job
Stairs tell you more about a carpet than the lounge does. These houses have a straight flight with a turn near the top, and on that turn the treads narrow to a wedge, so every foot lands on the same wide edge of each winder. That is where the pile goes flat and grit works down into the backing, and it is also the hardest part to clean, because a wand will not sit flat on a nosing and a pass that looks even across a landing skips the front edge of every step. It gets a hand tool worked down the nose of each tread rather than across it, then the same again on the extraction pass. The other place worth naming is the riser, the vertical face below each tread, which carries a grey band at shoe height that people read as shadow until it comes off and the difference shows.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Low moisture, because the foam underneath holds water for days
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Carpets: Thorough dry vacuum first
- Also covered: Stairs and landings, priced separately because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Cotgrave
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

How long will it take to dry on a concrete floor?
Longer than the same carpet over floorboards, and that is the honest answer rather than the one you want. Two to six hours is the normal range and a solid floor sits at the top of it, because none of the moisture can leave downwards. Heating on low with the windows on their vent setting does more than heating on high with the house shut up, since the point is to move damp air out of the room rather than warm it.
The dog smell comes back a few days after cleaning. Why?
Usually because the source is under the carpet rather than in it. Where a dog has had accidents the liquid goes through the backing into the underlay, and on a solid floor it then sits on the screed with nowhere to drain. Cleaning the pile takes out what you can see, and warm damp conditions bring the rest back up. We check by nose and by lifting a corner where one lifts, and if it has reached the underlay, replacing it is the fix.
Do we need to empty the rooms first?
Not empty, but clear. Lift anything small off the floor, so toys, shoes, magazine racks, cables and pet bowls, and take breakables off low shelves in case a hose catches one on the way past. We handle sofas, chairs, coffee tables and dining chairs. Beds, wardrobes and anything full stay put unless you have emptied them beforehand and asked us to move them. The more that is off the floor when we arrive, the more of the hour goes into the carpet.
It looked worse again a week later. What happened?
That is usually resoiling rather than dirt returning. If detergent is left in the pile it stays slightly tacky, so the next fortnight of foot traffic sticks to it and the traffic lanes darken faster than they did before. It can also be wicking, where a stain deep in the backing travels back up the fibre as the carpet dries. Both are avoided by rinsing properly and not over wetting, and if it happens after our visit we come back and put it right.
Do you cover the whole of Cotgrave?
Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Cotgrave?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Cotgrave?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Parking is easy compared with the city: drives, garage blocks and rear courts, and we group Cotgrave with Edwalton, Keyworth and Gamston on the rota.
