Mattress Cleaning for Edwalton homes
Main bedrooms big enough to stand a mattress on edge and run air across both faces, and a guest bed in the room over an unheated integral garage, which is the coldest floor in the house and the slowest anywhere to dry.
Two rooms, two different jobs. The main bedroom in these houses is large enough to work right round the bed, lift the mattress off the base, stand it on edge against a wall and move air across both faces, which is the ideal way to do it and the reason a big house is easier than a small one. The room over the integral garage is the opposite case. There is an unheated void under that floor rather than another room, so it runs colder than anywhere else in the property, and it is usually the guest bed or a teenager's. Booking it for a morning matters far more there than it does at the front of the house.
Edwalton sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. Three generations of housing sitting side by side, and they want different things. A 1930s detached house, a 1970s estate property with fitted storage on every wall, and a five year old house south of the wood are three separate jobs, quoted from what is actually in them rather than the bedroom count.
What we run into on Edwalton mattress cleaning jobs
Almost every bed here stands on a divan base with drawers in it, and the drawers hold the surprise. Fine grit works down the runners off the carpet and stays there, and the spare bedding stored inside takes on the smell of the room long before anyone decides the mattress has one. Under the mattress, the platform top of the base carries a felt of dust and skin that has come through the ticking over years, and nothing has ever reached it because the bed has not been apart since it was last moved. Both are lifted with a vacuum before anything wet happens anywhere near the room.
How an Edwalton mattress cleaning job actually runs
Two things decide whether a mattress visit works here and neither of them is the mattress. The first is the staircase. These houses turn once with winder treads about halfway up, and the machine, the hose and the air mover all have to go past that point, so a few minutes of the appointment is carrying rather than cleaning and the landing wants to be clear of whatever is queuing there for the loft. The second is the weather, because drying is the entire job. A bright day with a window open finishes a double in an afternoon; a still, grey, cold day in a back bedroom does not. We book these for mornings for that reason and we would rather move the date than hand a bed back damp. Strip the bed before we arrive: sheets, protector, topper and pillows off, and put the bedding through the machine rather than back on top, since a freshly washed protector going onto a mattress that is still drying undoes both at once. If a second bed is being done in the same visit, say so at booking, because the drying runs in parallel and the appointment does not double.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly large interwar detached houses along Melton Road, 1960s and 1970s estates of four and five bedroom detached properties, a small old village core, and new estates on the southern edge, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Edwalton on the same round as West Bridgford, Gamston and Ruddington.
What we check on every Edwalton job
The wall behind the headboard is worth a look while the bed is pulled away from it. In the interwar houses the main bedroom sits over the bay with a solid gable on one side, and where the bed has been pushed against that wall the air behind it has not moved in years. What turns up is a cold patch, sometimes black spotting low down where the wall meets the skirting, and the same marks transferred onto the back of the headboard itself. None of that is anything the mattress did. It is condensation, and cleaning the bed without pulling it off the wall afterwards means it is back within a winter. The newer houses have the reverse problem: warm sealed walls, windows kept shut from October, and the moisture two people put into a bedroom overnight with nowhere to go except the coldest surface in the room, which is usually the window reveal. In both cases the fix is moving air rather than a product.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: Label and construction checked before anything is applied
- Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
- The mattress itself: More dry passes than wet ones, so less water goes in than a carpet would take
- The rest of the bed: Skirting and the wall line behind the headboard
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Edwalton
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Edwalton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can we still sleep in the room that night?
In the main bedroom, usually yes, if we come in the morning and a window can stay open. Over the garage, plan on the spare bed. A cold void under a floor holds the room temperature down, and drying depends on warmth and moving air rather than on hours passing, so the same mattress that is ready by evening at the front of the house is still damp at the back of it.
Ours is a super king that has never been turned. Is that a problem?
It is common here, and most of them are not meant to be turned. A pillow top or a one sided mattress is built to be slept on one face and rotated head to foot rather than flipped, and the label will tell you which you have. It changes the clean instead of preventing it: everything a body leaves is concentrated in a single surface, so that face takes the time and the underside gets vacuumed.
Should we just replace it instead?
Sometimes, and we would rather say so before you pay for a visit. If there is a dip you can see across the surface, a spring you can feel through it, or it was soaked at some point and smells musty from the middle, a clean reaches the top layer and none of that. Where the mattress is sound and the problem is on the surface, it is worth doing, and a protector fitted afterwards is what stops the next round.
The bed is in the room over the garage and that room is freezing. Can it still be done?
Yes, with the heating on in there from the morning and the door shut so it stays on. A cold void under a floor pulls the room down, and cold air carries less moisture away, so the same mattress takes roughly twice as long there as at the front of the house. We run an air mover across the surface while the base and the headboard get done, and we tell you when it is safe to make up rather than leaving you a number of hours to guess with.
Do you cover the whole of Edwalton?
Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Edwalton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Edwalton?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Drives on almost everything, often block paved and long, which sounds easy and means the van sits well back from the door, and we group Edwalton with West Bridgford, Gamston and Ruddington on the rota.
