Mattress Cleaning for Keyworth homes

Heating on a commuter timer means the house is cold from eight until six, which is exactly the window the mattress has to dry in. The override switch matters more here than anything we put on the surface.

Beds here are almost all owner occupied and cleaned one at a time rather than in sets, and the trigger is usually something specific: a child who has been ill, an older relative moving into the downstairs room, or a bed being judged before a move. The room shapes the visit. On the estate houses the main bedroom runs the width of the front and takes a king comfortably, the second sits over the kitchen and is a small double at best, and the third is a single with the stair bulkhead taking one corner of it. What actually governs the day is temperature, because a house on a commuter timer is cold and shut from the moment everyone leaves, and the bed has to be slept in that night.

Keyworth sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. Commuter village, so most visits happen with nobody home. A key safe is the usual arrangement and by far the least trouble for everyone.

What we run into on Keyworth mattress cleaning jobs

The find that repeats is underneath rather than on top. A divan with a solid platform top, standing on fitted carpet in a bedroom that is unheated and closed for ten hours a day, gives moisture from the sleeper nowhere at all to go downwards. What shows is grey speckling across the base cloth and a matching pattern on the mattress underside, worst at the foot and along whichever side stands against an outside wall. People find it when they finally turn the bed and conclude the mattress is finished. Usually it is not, but it returns every winter unless something changes about the airflow beneath the base.

How a Keyworth mattress cleaning job actually runs

These visits are booked for the morning wherever possible, and that is a drying decision rather than a preference. Work done at nine has the whole day and the evening heating behind it, work done at three has neither. Access follows the same arrangement as a regular clean, so the bed is worked on in an empty house and the room is left exactly as it was found, headboard back against the wall and the bedding folded where it sat. What we want beforehand is the make and rough age, because a one sided pillowtop and a turnable sprung mattress take different handling, and a sprung edge divan in two halves separates while a one piece base does not. Where two or three beds are being done in one visit we start with the bed that is slept in that night and finish with the guest room, so the longest drying time lands on the mattress nobody needs. Anything found underneath a bed, and there is always something, is left out on the chest of drawers rather than put back, because guessing what was deliberately stored there is not a decision to make in an empty house.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly a village core with older cottages, surrounded by 1960s and 1970s estates and more recent development, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Keyworth on the same round as Ruddington, West Bridgford and Clifton.

What we check on every Keyworth job

Before anything is applied the label is read and the construction checked, because what is printed on a mattress decides most of the method. The specific things looked at on this stock: the piping running along the top edge, where dust collects and a hand vacuum never goes; the two or four carrying handles on the sides, stitched through the cover and holding years of grit in the webbing; the vents set into the border, which exist for airflow and are usually blocked solid with fluff; the seam at the head where a headboard has been rubbing; and on a divan, the top platform under the mattress along with the drawer runners in the base. A colourfast test goes somewhere hidden along the base seam rather than on the sleeping surface. Where a protector is fitted it comes off and gets washed, and if it has been on long enough to have bonded at the corners we say so instead of forcing it.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The rest of the bed: The gap behind and under the bed, which nothing reaches once the frame is in place
  • Stains and odour: Odour traced to its source, because a fragrance laid over a urine mark comes back in the first humid week
  • The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave
  • The mattress itself: Colourfast test in a hidden area, usually along the base seam

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in Keyworth

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Keyworth. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How does it get dry if we are out all day?

Leave the heating running through the day rather than on its usual timer, and leave the bedroom and landing doors open so air can move between rooms. A window on the vent latch does more than one thrown wide in a house nobody is watching. If the room faces the back garden and never gets sun, say so at booking. It changes how much moisture goes in, and on a cold room in midwinter it changes whether a set stain is worth treating at all.

Does the mattress come out of the room?

It comes off the base and stands on its side against the wall, and it stays where it is. Taking a king down a staircase with a winder at the bottom and a doorway at the foot is how plaster gets knocked off a turn, and there is nobody at home to agree that the mark was already there. Clear the floor down one side of the bed beforehand and take anything off the top of the wardrobe. That is all the space it needs.

The bed is about fifteen years old. Is cleaning it worth the money?

Cleaning does not restore support, so if the middle has dipped or you can feel individual springs the answer is no and we say so before taking a booking. What cleaning does is lift what is sitting in the top layer and deal with a particular mark or a smell. On a bed that is still comfortable and simply grubby it is worth doing. On one slept in every night for fifteen years that now sags, the money goes further toward a replacement and a protector on top of it.

There is a smell in the bedroom and we cannot work out where it comes from.

Then it gets traced before anything is sprayed at it. In these houses the usual sources are a mattress underside that has been sitting damp on a solid divan platform, the carpet under the bed where a pet has been, and bedding stored in a base drawer that went in slightly damp. A fragrance laid over any of those returns inside a week and comes back stronger in the first humid spell. We would rather find nothing and tell you than sell a deodorising visit that only hides it.

Do you cover the whole of Keyworth?

Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Keyworth?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Keyworth?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Drives on most properties, and we group Keyworth with Ruddington, West Bridgford and Clifton on the rota.
