Mattress Cleaning for Clifton homes

Cleaned upstairs in the room it sits in, because a double will not come down a postwar staircase without two people and a scraped wall, and there is grass outside rather than paving to stand it on.

Almost every mattress we clean on the estate is cleaned in place, upstairs, in the room it lives in. That is decided by the building, not by us. A double or a king will not come down one of these staircases without two people and a scraped wall, and there is no paved outside space to stand it on afterwards, only grass. Working in the room changes the method rather than the result. It has to be low moisture, because nothing can be tipped on edge outdoors to air off, and it has to be planned around the furniture, since a bed pushed hard into a corner leaves one long side unreachable. A metre of clear floor on one side is all we ask for, and sliding the bed out before we arrive is time you are not paying for.

Clifton sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. Consistent estate housing with a student pocket attached, so a steady regular round and a sharp end of tenancy peak in summer.

What we run into on Clifton mattress cleaning jobs

The base is the part that surprises people. Most beds here sit on divans rather than open frames, and a divan top is hessian or thin cloth over a timber frame, which behaves like a filter for anything falling through the gap at the head of the bed. Lift the mattress off and there is a grey felt of skin, fibre and hair across the whole platform, heaviest along the edge nearest the wall. On drawer bases the runners have cut a groove into the carpet and the drawers hold the same felt. None of it is reachable while the bed is made up, which is why the base is quoted with the mattress rather than as an extra.

How a Clifton mattress cleaning job actually runs

Bookings split into two here and they want different things. Owner occupied houses call about one bed, usually a main bedroom double, and that is a single appointment with somebody at home. Furnished lets call about several at once between tenancies, and there the job is every bed in the property in one visit with nobody in and a key arrangement instead. The second kind needs more planning than the first. Beds in a let are often stripped and stacked before we arrive, which sounds helpful and is not, because a mattress leant against a wall for a week has already taken damp off the plaster. Leave them flat on the base and we will do the stripping. Access matters more than it sounds for a bed job, because we carry a machine and air movers upstairs rather than running a hose through the house, so a clear landing and clear stairs is the whole request. Flag the small third bedroom when you book. A single in there is usually against two walls with storage underneath, and a bunk cannot be worked from above at all while the top is up.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly one of the largest postwar estates in the country, mostly semis and short terraces, plus student housing near the NTU campus, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Clifton on the same round as Ruddington, West Bridgford and Chilwell.

What we check on every Clifton job

What a bed shows most reliably is where it stands rather than who sleeps in it. A mattress pushed against an outside wall in an unheated bedroom picks up a faint speckled bloom along the face touching the plaster, tiny and grey and easy to take for dust until you put a light across it. That is surface growth living on still, damp air, and it returns if the bed goes back tight against the same wall, so we suggest a hand width of gap rather than pretending the clean has solved anything. The second thing is the pattern of the tidemarks. Perspiration leaves a mineral ring with a hard edge and body oils sit inside it as a softer yellow, and those want different treatments in a particular order rather than one product over the whole area. We test on the base seam first, and where the ring will lighten rather than clear we say so before the rest of the money is spent.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
  • Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
  • The mattress itself: Label and construction checked before anything is applied
  • Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in Clifton

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Clifton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can you clean it without taking the bed apart?

The mattress comes off the base and goes back on, which is not the same as dismantling anything. We lift it, work the base and the platform underneath, then treat each face of the mattress in turn with it standing against a clear wall for the second side. Slide the bed away from the wall before we arrive if you can. A metre of clear floor on one long side turns an awkward job into a straightforward one.

How long before we can sleep on it?

Plan on the same evening rather than the same hour. Far less water goes in than a carpet takes and we run air across it before leaving, but an upstairs room with the window shut and the heating off holds damp air and slows the whole thing down. Open the window and close the door for a few hours, leave the bedding off until it is dry to the back of your hand, and do not refit a protector while it is still cool.

There is a grey bloom on the side facing the wall. Is that cleanable?

The surface growth comes off, but unless you change what caused it, it is back within a season. It grows where a mattress sits tight against a cold outside wall in a room that is neither heated nor aired, because the air in that gap never moves. Pull the bed a hand width off the wall, open the window daily, and it is cleaned once rather than annually. If it has gone through into the filling that is a replacement conversation and we will say so.

We are furnishing a let. Is a protector worth buying?

It is the single thing that decides whether a mattress lasts one tenancy or three. A washable protector takes the perspiration and the spills that otherwise set into the surface and become the marks we can only lighten, and it costs a fraction of one clean. Buy two per bed so one is on while the other is washed, and list it as an item on the inventory, because then it gets checked at check out like anything else does.

Do you cover the whole of Clifton?

Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Clifton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Clifton?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Good throughout, with wide roads and generally available parking, and we group Clifton with Ruddington, West Bridgford and Chilwell on the rota.
