Mattress Cleaning for Wilford homes

Owner occupiers, long settled, so the beds are older than the tenancies anywhere else on our patch. The stair in a village cottage turns twice and the mattress does not come down it, which means the whole job happens in the room it sleeps in.

Wilford beds belong to the people who bought them, which is not true of most areas we work in. Long tenure and settled households mean a divan can be twenty years into the same bedroom, and the booking is usually one bed with a reason attached: a spare room used twice a year, an illness, a child, or a dog that has been allowed upstairs since it was a puppy. The other constant is the stair. A cottage staircase here is boxed, steep and turns twice between the floors, so a double mattress does not come down it without being bent, and nobody sensible bends a pocket sprung mattress. The whole visit happens in the room, which makes floor space the thing that sets the method.

Wilford sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. Everything sits low against the river, so damp behaves differently. North facing render and window frames grow a green film, ground floors on the old lanes are cold underfoot in summer, and condensation on the reveals starts earlier in autumn than it does uphill.

What we run into on Wilford mattress cleaning jobs

The underside is where the surprise is. A bed pushed against an external wall on this ground sits in the coldest air in the house, and on a slatted frame with no movement under it the base of the mattress gathers a fine grey bloom along the line where it meets the wall. It is not always mould and it is not always dirt, so it gets identified before anything wet goes near it. Divans hide a different thing. Two drawer bases split down the middle, and the join collects what has gone down the side of the bed for however long the bed has been there.

How a Wilford mattress cleaning job actually runs

A mattress clean is a room booking rather than a house booking, and in Wilford the room decides most of it. Bedrooms in the village cottages are small, often with a chimney breast taking a corner out of the floor plan and a window that does not open far, so before the day we want to know what is round the bed. A clear metre on three sides is the working minimum, and where a bed sits against two walls we ask for it pulled out before we arrive rather than moving it with everything still on it. Access is the second thing. The stairs are steep and turn, so equipment goes up in pieces and comes down the same way, and that is time on the clock rather than a detail. The third is what happens afterwards. A bed is not made up on the day it is cleaned, whoever asks, so if it is the only bed in the house, plan where you are sleeping. Booking a dry, breezy day rather than a wet week is worth doing here, because drying is the part the weather genuinely affects.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly a conservation core of rendered and red brick cottages round the church, then interwar and postwar semis on the roads behind, with later closes and infill running toward Compton Acres, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Wilford on the same round as The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford.

What we check on every Wilford job

Headboards give the room away. In a bedroom that has held the same bed for years there is a shadow on the wall above the headboard and a matching darkening on the fabric itself, and it is body oil and hair product rather than dust, which is exactly why wiping the wall spreads it about. It comes off the fabric with the same low moisture method as the mattress and off the paint with a dry pass first. Under the bed is the other one. On a divan the floor beneath has never been reached, and what sits there is a fine grey felt of skin and fibre that has settled and never been disturbed. That matters more than it sounds, because it is what a vacuum lifts into the air every time somebody cleans the room around it. We take it out with a HEPA machine before the mattress is touched rather than after.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The rest of the bed: Skirting and the wall line behind the headboard
  • Stains and odour: Bicarbonate deodorising where the smell sits in the surface
  • The mattress itself: Pre-treatment matched to the soiling, with proper dwell time
  • The rest of the bed: Ottoman and drawer interiors cleared of dust and debris

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Wilford property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What mattress cleaning costs in Wilford

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Wilford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The spare room bed smells musty but it looks clean. Is that the mattress?

Often it is the room rather than the bed, and the two need different answers. A bedroom that is shut, unheated and on low ground holds damp air for weeks, and everything textile in it takes on that smell. We check the mattress for a source, an old spill, a protector put back damp, a mark that has reached the filling, and if there is not one we say so. Heating and airing that room is then the fix.

Can you take the mattress outside to work on it?

Not out of a cottage, no. A boxed stair with two turns is not something a double mattress goes down undamaged, and neither is a landing with a hatch ladder hanging over it. We work on the bed where it stands, which means we need a clear route round three sides of it and somewhere to stand an air mover. Move the small furniture out the night before and the visit runs shorter.

There is a mark on the mattress from years ago. Will it come out?

Probably not completely, and you get that answer before we start rather than afterwards. An old body fluid mark has usually reached the filling and oxidised, and what shows on the ticking is the edge of something larger underneath it. Enzyme treatment deals with the smell, which is the part that actually affects the room you sleep in, and the stain generally lightens rather than clears. Where the filling has been soaked through, we will say that it is a replacement decision.

It is memory foam. Does that make a difference?

Yes, and the label decides it rather than we do. Most memory foam is marked spot clean only, because the foam holds water, dries from the outside inwards and can go mouldy in the middle where nothing reaches. On those we vacuum, treat spots, deodorise and use as little moisture as the soiling allows. If the label says dry clean only we do not wet it at all. The base, the headboard and the floor under it are treated the same as on any other bed.

Do you cover the whole of Wilford?

Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Wilford?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Wilford?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Main Road narrows through the village and the roadside spaces by the green fill early, so we work from the side streets and carry in, and we group Wilford with The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford on the rota.
