Mattress Cleaning for The Meadows homes
Bedrooms sized to the plan rather than to the bed: a double, a small double, and a box room over the stair bulkhead. Nothing turns easily in there, so a mattress is worked in halves where it lies and dried on the spot.
How much floor there is around the bed decides this job here. In the two bedroom houses the main bedroom takes a double with a stride of space down one side and a wardrobe filling the other, and the second bedroom is a small double at best. A mattress cannot be stood on its edge and walked around in a room that size, so it gets turned on the base and worked in halves, one face at a time, with bedding and everything stored beneath moved out onto the landing first. Box rooms over the stair bulkhead hold a single and a chest of drawers and nothing else at all. If you were expecting the bed to be carried out of the way, the honest position in most of these rooms is that there is nowhere for it to go.
The Meadows sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The redevelopment put front doors onto footpaths and cars into rear courts, so nothing arrives at the door on wheels. Everything gets carried in. That one layout decision shapes how a visit runs here more than the number of rooms ever does.
What we run into on The Meadows mattress cleaning jobs
Turn a mattress over in one of these bedrooms and the underside is usually the more interesting face. Upstairs heating gets used sparingly, a solid topped divan gives the mattress nothing to breathe through, and the moisture a sleeper puts out every night has one direction to travel and no air to carry it off. What shows is a faint grey spotting across the platform and a matching pattern on the mattress beneath, strongest at the head end. It vacuums and treats. What stops it coming back is a slatted base, or simply standing the mattress off the platform for a morning every few weeks.
How a The Meadows mattress cleaning job actually runs
The machine and the water come to you rather than the other way round, which on this estate means a trolley from the court, along the walkway and up a straight flight with a turn at the bottom of it. That is not difficult, it simply needs the route clear, so shoes, bags and anything stored on the stairs are worth moving before we arrive. Morning slots work better than afternoon ones, for a reason worth knowing: drying is done with air moving across the surface, and an hour of that is worth more with the whole day still to come than at four in the afternoon. Bedrooms on the walkway side are the awkward ones to ventilate, because the window opens over a footpath the estate uses to get home and most people would rather it was not standing wide open with the room in view. A narrow opening and a machine doing the work is the answer there. In the maisonettes the internal stair is tighter again. In a let, ask the agent whether the base and the headboard are on the inventory, because they generally are.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly low-rise redevelopment from the 1970s and 1980s, laid out around pedestrian walkways and rear parking courts, with older terraces surviving toward Queens Drive and flats and maisonettes near Bridgeway, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run The Meadows on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford.
What we check on every The Meadows job
The base under the mattress is the part nobody books and the part that shows the most. On a divan with drawers, those drawers run straight on the carpet in bedrooms this size, and lifting them out is where a visit usually finds something: dust felted along the runners, a layer of fluff across the platform boards, and whatever slid down the back years ago. On an ottoman base the lid lifts and the whole interior has sat sealed since the bed was built. Neither is dirty in an alarming way. They are spaces no vacuum has ever entered, and with the mattress off it takes minutes to do them properly. The gap between the head of the bed and the wall is the other one, because in rooms this size the bed goes hard against the wall for want of anywhere else, and that closed strip gathers more than the open floor either side of it.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Stains and odour: Enzymatic pre-treatment for urine, which breaks down the uric acid crystals a detergent leaves behind
- Stains and odour: Odour traced to its source, because a fragrance laid over a urine mark comes back in the first humid week
- The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
- The rest of the bed: Skirting and the wall line behind the headboard
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in The Meadows
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in The Meadows. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The bed came with the tenancy. Is cleaning it our responsibility?
The mattress is an inventory item, so its condition gets judged at check out against the check in photographs with an allowance for fair wear and tear, and cleaning it is reasonable and worth doing. Replacement is not your call. A mattress that has been soaked through, or has gone mouldy inside where nothing reaches, cannot be cleaned back to anything, and that is a conversation with the landlord rather than a booking with us.
How soon can we sleep on it?
The same night, provided the room is aired while we work and the bed is left unmade for a few hours afterwards. Far less water goes into a mattress than into a carpet, and the dry passes outnumber the wet ones for exactly that reason. What ruins it is remaking the bed straight away, because a fitted sheet and a duvet over a surface that is not quite dry seal the last of the moisture in where it cannot leave.
There is a memory foam topper on the bed. Does that get done too?
It depends entirely on the label, and the label is the first thing we read. A great deal of memory foam is marked spot clean or dry clean only, and wetting it is how a topper ends up heavier, slower to dry and worse than it started out. Where that is what the label says, the topper gets vacuumed on both faces and treated locally and no further, and you hear that before anything is applied rather than afterwards.
Nobody is in until the evening. Can you work while we are out?
Yes, on the same key arrangement as any other visit, and it is often better, because the room then gets the rest of the day to finish drying before anybody uses it. What we ask is that the bedding is stripped and left off before you go, the floor around the bed is clear, and we know which room and which bed if there is more than one in the house. Coming back a second time to a bed still made up is a wasted trip for everybody.
Do you cover the whole of The Meadows?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in The Meadows?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in The Meadows?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Park in the rear court and walk round, because the road the address belongs to and the door you knock on are often on opposite sides of the block, and we group The Meadows with Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford on the rota.
