Mattress Cleaning for Chilwell homes

Owner occupiers with beds that have not moved in years, and lets furnished with rolled foam hybrids bought in a box. The bedroom built out over the garage is the cold one, and drying is what sets the appointment.

Every newer house on these estates has one bedroom that sits colder than the rest, and it is the one built out over the garage. A garage is unheated and the floor above it is often the weakest bit of insulation in the plot, so that room lags the others by a few degrees all winter, and a mattress in it gives moisture back far more slowly than the identical mattress next door. That decides the appointment rather than the price: an early start, air moving, and the bed not made up until evening. Storage is the second pattern. Plots are tight and the wardrobes are shallow, so a great many of these bedrooms hold a lift up ottoman base, which changes how the visit runs before any cleaning starts.

Chilwell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Newer builds here have combination boilers and unvented cylinders rather than tanks, which is worth nothing to a cleaner except that airing cupboards are smaller and easier.

What we run into on Chilwell mattress cleaning jobs

The ottoman base is what adds the time. The platform is a solid board on gas struts rather than a slatted frame, so the underside of the mattress has never had air moving under it, and the cavity below holds whatever has been stored in there along with a layer of fibre dust shed off the ticking. The struts hold the platform open while we work, which helps, but the mattress has to come off the base completely and there is rarely floor space for it in a third bedroom. On the top storey of a townhouse it goes out onto the landing, and those landings are narrow enough that it has to go back before anything else can move.

How a Chilwell mattress cleaning job actually runs

Book the morning and plan the evening. A mattress cleaned here needs four to eight hours before bedding goes back on, and what decides whether it gets them is the heating rather than the weather. Most households here run the boiler on a timer that heats early and again from late afternoon, so the house sits cool and shut through the middle of the day, which is the worst condition for drying a bed. If the room can be left warm with the window on a vent, tell us; if it cannot, the visit wants to be earlier and the bed is for the following night. Getting to the bed is the second question. On a three storey house the machine stays at ground level and only the hose and the air mover go up, so we need a socket on the top landing and the stairs clear. In the interwar semis everything sits above a single flight and none of that arises. Either way the room is cleared before we arrive: the bed off the wall, floor space along both sides, and anything stored inside an ottoman base out, because the platform has to lift.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar semis, with newer estates around Toton Lane and the tram park and ride, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Chilwell on the same round as Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton.

What we check on every Chilwell job

A good share of the beds on the newer closes arrived compressed in a box, and that construction is worth understanding before anybody puts water into one. A foam hybrid has a pocket spring core with two or three bonded foam layers over it and a knitted cover zipped the whole way round, and the label inside very often says spot clean only, which is not advice. Foam is closed cell. It holds water in the middle where no airflow reaches, and there is no way to stand it on edge to dry the underside. So those are vacuumed, treated in place and dried, never extracted. What owners want fixed on them is the dip down the sleeping side, and that is the comfort layer settling rather than anything sitting on the surface, so cleaning does nothing to it. Where the cover unzips and the care label permits a wash, that is a wash, and it costs you nothing to be told that before booking a visit.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
  • The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
  • The rest of the bed: The gap behind and under the bed, which nothing reaches once the frame is in place
  • The rest of the bed: Protector or topper handled, washed or refitted as the label allows

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Chilwell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What mattress cleaning costs in Chilwell

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Chilwell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ours came compressed in a box. Is that cleaned the same way?

No, and it is the difference worth knowing before you book. A rolled foam hybrid has bonded foam layers over the springs, and foam holds water in the middle where no airflow reaches and cannot be stood on edge to dry. Those are vacuumed, treated on the spot and dried, never extracted. Check the cover as well, because many of them zip off and carry a wash symbol, and a wash is cheaper and better than anything we would do to it.

Can you come during the day and we make the bed up when we get in?

Only if we start early enough. Four to eight hours in a ventilated room is normal, counted from when we finish rather than from when we arrive, and the room over the garage wants the longer end of that. A mid afternoon finish means the bed is for the following night. Tell us at booking whether the heating can be left on for the day, because a cool shut house is the slowest drying condition there is.

The cover unzips. Should we just wash it instead of booking you?

Read the label first and then usually yes, for the cover. A washable knitted cover comes off, goes in at the temperature printed on it and goes back on damp rather than dry, because they shrink slightly and fight you otherwise. What that does not touch is the mattress underneath, which is where the perspiration and the dust actually are. If the cover is the whole of your problem, wash it. If the smell survives the cover coming off, the problem is deeper and worth a visit.

Two beds on different floors of a townhouse. Can both be done in one visit?

Yes, and the order is set by drying rather than by convenience. The slower room goes first, which on these houses is normally the one over the garage or whichever faces away from the sun, and it gets the air mover for the longest stretch while the second bed is worked. We need a socket on each floor and the stairs kept clear both ways. Two beds is comfortably a single visit; four across three storeys is not, and we would split it.

Do you cover the whole of Chilwell?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Chilwell?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Chilwell?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Drives on most properties, and we group Chilwell with Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton on the rota.
