Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Netherfield homes
The whole job is at the back. A brick yard the size of a small room, a shared entry running to it, and one gully in the corner taking everything, which decides where the water can go before the machine comes out.
There is no drive to clean on most of these streets and pretending otherwise wastes everybody's time. What the booking actually covers here is a back yard, the entry floor leading to it and the strip of front footway that belongs to the house. The ground is old clay brick laid flat or on edge, concreted over at some point in a good many of them and slabbed in others, and it is enclosed on three sides by walls high enough to keep direct sun off it for most of the day. That is why the algae is heavier here than on an open drive of the same age, why it returns sooner after a wash, and why the pressure and the chemistry both get set well below what modern block paving would take.
Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. Regular fortnightly work in the owner-occupied rows, tenancy turnarounds on the rented ones, and more small commercial jobs than a residential area usually produces. Shop units and first floor offices along the main street, plus premises on the retail park, where trading hours decide the schedule rather than we do.
What we run into on Netherfield driveway & patio cleaning jobs
Old yard brick decides the pressure. A clay common has a fired skin on the face and a soft body under it, and after enough winters that skin blows off in flakes wherever water has got in and frozen. Once a face has gone the brick sits darker and drinks water, and a rotary head run at drive pressure over it takes off the next lot rather than the algae. So we test a corner, drop the pressure and let the chemistry do the work. The entry floor is the slowest part of any yard job for the reason it is dirtiest: walls on both sides, no direct sun, and it stays damp long after the yard has dried.
How a Netherfield driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Water and hose runs are the first thing to settle here. The machine works off the van, so a hose comes from the street, down the entry and round the turn into the yard, a long run before any water hits the ground. If your yard tap works and you are happy for us to use it, that shortens the job; plenty were isolated over winter and never turned back on. Noise is second. A yard enclosed by walls on three sides throws the sound of a machine straight up into the back bedrooms either side of you, so we do not start these at eight in the morning on a terraced row, and a late morning start, with neighbours told the day before, causes nobody any trouble. Before the water goes on, the back door threshold and any air brick low on the outrigger get covered, because a lance driving water at a low air brick puts it under the floor rather than off the paving. Block paving is rare here, but where a yard has been relaid in blocks the sand still has to go back, and that needs a dry spell rather than an afternoon.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly railway terraces in long straight rows off Victoria Road, built for the Colwick yards, with postwar infill toward the flood plain and a high share of the stock privately let, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.
What we check on every Netherfield job
Lift the edge of an old yard and you find out what it is sitting on. A Victorian brick yard was commonly laid straight onto ash or sand with the joints filled the same way, no mortar and no bedding as we would understand it now, and after a hundred and some years of rain that bed has washed and settled unevenly. It is why the surface rocks in places and why one corner has dropped toward the gully. It also decides how the wash is done: too much pressure at a joint scours the fill straight out, the brick beside it loses support, and you end up with a loose surface that was sound before somebody cleaned it. So joints on old brickwork get worked across rather than into, at a shallow angle, and anything already rocking is pointed out and left alone rather than cleaned to pieces.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Before the water goes on: Cars, bins and furniture moved off, planting and painted timber sheeted
- Before the water goes on: Gullies, air bricks and door thresholds covered, and the route the water will take worked out before it starts taking it
- Before the water goes on: Established weeds, roots and thick moss pulled and scraped out of the joints by hand first
- Before the water goes on: Imprinted concrete flagged as a sealer job rather than a jetting job, because what has failed there is the sealer coat, not the concrete under it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Netherfield
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The entry is shared with next door. Can you do all of it?
We can with the neighbour's agreement, and it is a better job in one pass than in two halves. A shared entry has one floor and one fall, so cleaning up to an imaginary line leaves a visible edge and pushes your slurry onto their half of it. Ask them before you book. If they would rather not, we clean your section and finish it at a joint or a threshold so the change looks deliberate rather than abandoned.
There is one gully in the corner of the yard. Where does the dirty water go?
Not down that gully if we can help it. What comes off a yard is silt, dead algae and broken down moss, and a single gully serving the whole yard packs up quickly once somebody flushes that into it. It gets swept and vacuumed instead and leaves with us. We also check the fall before starting, because on plenty of these yards the ground runs back toward the kitchen door rather than away from it.
Is the front footway outside the house part of it?
We will clean the strip in front of your door and the step, and it is usually worth doing at the same time because the machine is already set up. The footway itself belongs to the highway authority, so we keep to the frontage rather than working out across a public pavement, and we keep the slurry off it. Wet paving outside a front door needs a few minutes to drain before anyone walks on it.
Can you do the yard and the entry in the same visit?
Yes, and it is the sensible order: entry first, then the yard, so the traffic route is finished before we are working past it. The entry takes the longer of the two because it never sees sun and the growth on it is thicker. If the entry is shared, get the neighbour's agreement first, since we are working on ground that is half theirs and the water has to go somewhere.
Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Netherfield?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Netherfield?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
