Laundry & Ironing for Wilford homes
Households rather than lets, and the reason is drying. An airer in a cold room puts water into a house that already has too much of it. Collection is a fixed doorstep slot on the old lanes, a left bag in the closes.
The buyer here is a household rather than a landlord, and the reason is drying. Line drying works for about half the year on ground this low, and a load left out into the evening comes in heavier than it went out. The alternative is an airer in a room that is already condensing, which puts several more litres of water into a house with nowhere to put it. Sending the washing out removes that entirely, and it is an argument that lands here in a way it would not three miles uphill. What comes with it is school uniform through term time, workwear kept apart from everything else, and bed linen, which is the item people give up ironing first.
Wilford sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are St Wilfrid's church, the green, Main Road, the Ferry Inn and the Trent path, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Wilford laundry & ironing jobs
Towels tell you which houses have been drying indoors. A towel dried slowly on an airer in a cold room goes sour, and the smell is bacterial rather than cosmetic, so it disappears while the towel is dry and comes straight back the moment it is used. Fabric conditioner makes it worse, because the residue holds moisture in the pile. Those go through a hot wash on their own with no conditioner and get dried properly rather than nearly. Bed linen out of the same houses arrives with the same problem along the fold lines rather than across the whole sheet.
How a Wilford laundry & ironing job actually runs
Collection and return is the whole logistics question here, and it gets settled at the first pickup rather than left to work itself out. On the old lanes there is nowhere to stand a vehicle for long, so we agree a fixed slot rather than a window and the bag needs to be ready inside the door when we knock. On the roads and closes behind, most houses have a porch, a drive or a side gate, so a bag can be left out and swapped for the clean one without anybody being in, which is what most working households settle on. Two practical things make the count work. Use the same bag every time and keep the count sheet in it, and tell us how the house divides, by person or by room, because that is how it comes back folded. School uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time is the commonest standing order in this area, and it wants booking before September rather than during it. Workwear is kept apart from household washing, which is most of the reason people send it out rather than run it at home.
Who books it here
Settled households on a fortnightly rota, an annual deep clean booked either side of summer, and window cleaning at intervals that would look excessive anywhere else. Riverside glass does not stay clean, and the cottages along the old lanes have small panes that show every mark.
We run Wilford on the same round as The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford.
What we check on every Wilford job
The care label is the part that gets cut out, and it causes more trouble than anything else in the bag. A shirt with the label gone from the collar is a shirt nobody can safely wash at anything other than a cautious temperature, and cautious is not what gets a school uniform clean. So the count sheet notes anything unlabelled at collection, those items run cool, and we tell you which ones they were so you can decide. The second is the check on every item before it goes anywhere near a drum. Zips are closed, buttons are checked, and anything with a broken zip, a loose trim or an existing tear is set aside and reported rather than run, because a machine will finish the job that a loose zip started. Pockets get emptied and whatever comes out is bagged and returned with the wash.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
- Linen, towels and household items: School uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time
- Service wash, charged by weight: Bags weighed at collection, with the weight and the price confirmed before anything is washed
- Service wash, charged by weight: Washed at the temperature on the care label, not one temperature for everything
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What laundry & ironing costs in Wilford
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Wilford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can we send the duvet as well?
Singles and doubles sometimes, and it depends entirely on whether the drum takes it with room to move. King and super king go to a launderer with a bigger machine, and so does anything feather filled, whatever size it is. A duvet that cannot move freely in the drum comes out wet in the middle and stays that way, which is worse than not washing it. We say yes or no when we see it rather than at booking.
How does collection work if there is nowhere to park outside?
We come to the door on an agreed slot rather than a window, so nothing is standing on a narrow road for long. Have the bag ready inside the door with the count sheet in it. Where there is a porch or a drive, and the closes behind the village mostly have both, a bag can be left out and swapped without anybody being in. On the old lanes we would rather have a person or a fixed time.
We only want the ironing, not the washing.
That is fine and it is a common arrangement here. Ironing is priced per item or per hour, whichever works out cheaper for what you actually hand over, and it comes back on hangers under a cover or folded flat, whichever you ask for. Bed linen and duvet covers are slow work and are counted separately from clothes. Have things dry and out of the machine when we collect, because damp items folded into a bag do not improve on the journey.
Can you use a non biological detergent?
Yes, and fragrance free as well, at no extra cost. Say so at the first collection and it goes on the account rather than being asked for each time. If somebody in the house has eczema or a skin allergy, tell us that too, because it also decides whether conditioner is used at all and what the towels get washed with. Anything separated for that reason is run on its own rather than tucked into a mixed load.
Do you cover the whole of Wilford?
Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Wilford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Wilford?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Main Road narrows through the village and the roadside spaces by the green fill early, so we work from the side streets and carry in, and we group Wilford with The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford on the rota.
