Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Wilford homes

Half the village has no drive at all, just a path, a step and a strip of old stone flags onto a narrow footway. The semis behind have concrete runners or a block drive over them, and the closes toward Compton Acres are block throughout.

Start with what the ground actually is, because the village core and the roads behind it are not the same job. In the conservation core a good number of houses have no drive at all: a short path, a step and a strip of old stone flags between the front door and a narrow footway, with a rear yard of concrete flag beyond. The interwar semis behind have either a pair of concrete runners with grass between them or a block drive laid over the top of those later. The closes toward Compton Acres are block paving throughout, some of it running into a shared turning area. Pressure and chemistry both follow from which of those you have, and old stone takes the least of both.

Wilford sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. Settled households on a fortnightly rota, an annual deep clean booked either side of summer, and window cleaning at intervals that would look excessive anywhere else. Riverside glass does not stay clean, and the cottages along the old lanes have small panes that show every mark.

What we run into on Wilford driveway & patio cleaning jobs

The north side of a house here never dries out, and paving on that side shows it as black spot lichen rather than a green film. Black spot is anchored into the surface, so it does not come off with water at any pressure a slab will survive, and the usual result of trying is a pitted patch that stays visibly different afterwards. It wants a proprietary remover and dwell time instead. The second thing found on nearly every job is the strip of paving under a downpipe shoe, where years of discharge have washed the joint sand out and left the blocks either side of it sitting loose.

How a Wilford driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs

This is the one job on the list where the neighbour matters as much as the customer. Front gardens in the village core sit tight against the footway and against each other, so before anything is switched on we work out where the water is going, cover the thresholds and the gully, and move the bins and anything wooden out of the line of the spray. On the closes toward Compton Acres a good number of drives are shared, or run into a common turning area, and washing half of a shared surface leaves a line down the middle that is more obvious than the dirt was, so that is worth agreeing with next door before we book rather than after we finish. We need an outside tap or a filling point and space to stand the vehicle near enough to run a hose out. Cars come off the drive for the day. Sealing, if you want it, is a separate return visit on a genuinely dry surface and never the same day, and on this ground genuinely dry means a run of dry weather rather than a dry morning.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly a conservation core of rendered and red brick cottages round the church, then interwar and postwar semis on the roads behind, with later closes and infill running toward Compton Acres, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Wilford on the same round as The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford.

What we check on every Wilford job

Two things show up on the first pass nearly every time. The first is the gap between what the surface is and what people think it is. Imprinted concrete looks like block paving from standing height and behaves nothing like it, because what has gone dull there is a sealer coat rather than the concrete under it, and jetting takes that coat off in patches and commits you to resealing the lot. We identify it before the machine starts rather than after. The second is the edge. On a drive laid over the old concrete runners, the block edging along the boundary is usually the first part to move, and once the restraint has gone the blocks nearest it are loose and the jointing sand beneath them has washed away into the border. Washing a surface like that makes the movement obvious, so we point it out beforehand instead of being told afterwards that we caused it.

What the driveway & patio cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The clean: Slurry swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully or run onto next door's garden
  • The clean: Pressure and nozzle set to the surface, well down on sandstone, limestone and porcelain from what concrete takes
  • Before the water goes on: Sunken blocks, rocking slabs and failed edge kerbs pointed out before we start rather than blamed on the wash afterwards
  • Before the water goes on: Gullies, air bricks and door thresholds covered, and the route the water will take worked out before it starts taking it

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Wilford property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Wilford

Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£100 to £200

Typical cost in Wilford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Cleaning, per square metre£3 to £6
Minimum charge on a small jobUsually billed as a 30 m² minimum
Patio, up to 20 m²£90 to £160
Single drive, 30 to 40 m²£100 to £200
Double drive, 50 to 70 m²£150 to £280
Large drive, 90 m² and over£225 to £350

The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Block paving re-sanding, per m²£1.50 to £3
Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m²£4 to £10
Clean and seal together, single drive£200 to £300
Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m²£2 to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The front path is old stone flags. Is jetting safe on it?

Not at the pressure a concrete drive takes, and not without a test patch first. Older stone is softer than it looks and the surface is what holds it together, so a rotary head run hard across it leaves the slab visibly opened up. We work well down on pressure, take the moss and the roots out of the joints by hand, and tell you where the mortar has already failed rather than washing it out and leaving you to find it.

There is nowhere for the water to go. Our garden opens straight onto the pavement.

Then it gets contained rather than flushed. Slurry is swept and vacuumed up instead of being pushed onto the footway or into the border next door, and the thresholds and the gully are covered before anything is switched on. On low ground that matters more than it sounds, because a gully already running slow takes silt very badly. We walk the route the water will take with you before we start.

Will the moss come straight back?

On a shaded elevation some of it will, and anybody promising otherwise is not looking at your house. What slows it down is getting the joints properly filled again, so kiln dried sand goes in once the surface has dried, worked down and topped up in stages rather than scattered once and swept off. Where joints are wide or on a slope, a jointing compound holds far longer than loose sand does. We do not apply professional weedkillers, which needs a certificate of competence.

Can you do the patio and the path on the same visit?

Usually, and it costs less as one visit than as two, but they may not be the same surface. A rear yard of concrete flag, a front path of old stone and a block drive all take different pressure and different chemistry, and the stone sets the ceiling for how the day gets worked. Tell us roughly what you have when you book and we bring the right heads for it. Anything we have not worked on before gets a test patch in a low visibility corner.

Do you cover the whole of Wilford?

Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Wilford?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Wilford?

Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Main Road narrows through the village and the roadside spaces by the green fill early, so we work from the side streets and carry in, and we group Wilford with The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford on the rota.
