Gutter Cleaning for Rise Park homes
Concrete tile roofs and nothing tall growing at the front, so the front run silts with roof grit and moss instead of leaves. The back is the one that blocks, off trees the owners planted themselves when the estate was new.
Two storey with a modest eaves height, so a pole reaches everything from the ground and what decides the day is where the operator can stand. At the front that is a drive, which is firm, level and the best standing there is. At the back it is lawn and a planted border directly under the eaves, which after a wet week is soft enough that the pole has to be worked from further out at a worse angle. The other thing shaping it is what is actually up there. With nothing tall growing at the front, the front run fills with material off the roof rather than off a tree, and that behaves nothing like leaf litter once it is in a gutter.
Rise Park sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. On the practical side: Every house has a drive and the frontages are open, so a van parks without blocking anyone. The pinch is the side passage: a gate, the bins and about the width of one person, and it is the only way to the back.
What we run into on Rise Park gutter cleaning jobs
Concrete tiles are the reason. They are made with a sanded surface that weathers and lets go over the years, and those granules wash down the pitch every time it rains and settle in the low end of the run by the outlet. It does not float and a hose only pushes it along, because it packs down into a dense grey silt that has to be lifted out with suction. Moss arrives from the same place in lumps after a frost, off the shaded pitch, and sits on top of that silt where it holds water against the joints instead of letting it pass.
How a Rise Park gutter cleaning job actually runs
Getting round the property is the logistics of a gutter visit here. The front is straightforward once a car has been moved, because a drive is firm level standing and the pole goes up from it without anybody treading in a border. The back is the slower half. The standing is lawn and planting, the ground directly under the eaves is the softest part of the garden, and after a wet spell the choice is working from further out at a worse angle or waiting for it to dry. Where there is a conservatory or a lean to across the back wall, its own gutter is a separate run that fills faster than the house does, and it gets cleared from the ground rather than by anybody putting weight on the glazing. Timing is late autumn rather than September, because clearing before the trees have finished simply means doing it twice. We bag what comes out and take it away, since tipping gutter silt into a border puts the same material back on the ground under the downpipe. If a nest is in use we leave that run and come back later, which is the law rather than a preference.
Who books it here
Houses are private built, owner occupied and generally well kept, so a first visit is rarely a rescue. What we are called in for is reach and time rather than neglect, and the annual work is as much about removing years of polish, mop shine and soap film as removing dirt.
We run Rise Park on the same round as Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold.
What we check on every Rise Park job
Eaves felt is the detail that decides a lot here and nobody ever sees it. Under the bottom course of tiles the roofing felt runs over the rafters and turns down into the back of the gutter, and on roofs of this generation there is often no rigid tray holding it up, so over the years it sags between the rafter ends into a row of shallow pockets. Debris catches on the sag instead of dropping into the gutter where it can be lifted out, and when the felt lip eventually perishes and splits, water coming off the roof runs behind the gutter rather than into it, down the fascia and onto the wall. From the ground that reads as a leaking gutter, which is why people ask for gutters to be sealed. Clearing helps and it does not fix a split lip. That is a roofer, and the camera footage is what tells you which of the two you are looking at.
What the gutter cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The camera: A look along every run before anything starts, so you know what is actually in there
- The camera: Worth having if you are a landlord, or simply not at the property that day
- Washing and extras: Downpipe unblocking, rodded and then flushed through to prove it
- Clearing: Moss, leaf litter, roofing grit, silt and nesting material lifted out rather than pushed along the run
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full gutter cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What gutter cleaning costs in Rise Park
Gutter clearing by ground based vacuum, at typical UK market rates by property type. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£70 to £120
Typical per visit in Rise Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per visit |
|---|---|
| Bungalow or single storey | £45 to £75 |
| Terraced house | £55 to £90 |
| Semi-detached | £70 to £120 |
| Detached | £100 to £180 |
| Three storey or townhouse | £140 to £220 |
| Priced by the metre instead | £4 to £12 per metre |
Gutters are quoted per visit, so a semi-detached cleared twice a year sits at roughly £140 to £240 a year. If a quote looks high against that, ask for the per metre rate instead: it shows whether the price was worked out from your actual run of guttering or from a glance at the front of the house.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Conservatory gutter added to a visit | £30 to £50 |
| Downpipe unblocked, per pipe | £20 to £60 |
| External gutter wash, fascias and soffits | £40 to £80 |
| Gutter guards supplied and fitted, by others | £200 to £500 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Does anyone have to go on the roof?
No. The work is done from the ground with a vacuum on a carbon fibre pole and a camera on the head, so the inside of the run is on a screen before anything starts and photographed once it is clear. Nobody stands on the tiles, on a conservatory roof, or on a ladder footed in a soft border. Where something genuinely cannot be reached that way, we film it and show you rather than improvising a way up to it.
How would I know the gutters need doing? I cannot see them.
Look during heavy rain rather than on a dry day. Water tipping over the front edge in a curtain, a downpipe that stays silent while the gutter above it is full, or a dark vertical band down the brickwork under one joint all say the run is holding water rather than draining it. Plants growing out of the top are a late sign. A camera pass answers it properly, which is the reason the camera is on the pole.
Can you fix the gutter while you are working on it?
Some of it, and the line is worth knowing. Clearing a run, rodding a downpipe and refitting a shoe that has dropped off are all part of the job. Anything structural is not: a length that has lost its fall, a bracket pulling out of the fascia, a split joint or a perished seal all need a roofer with proper access rather than a pole worked from the ground. We film whatever we find and send it over, so you are showing somebody a picture instead of describing a noise.
How often should this be happening?
Once a year suits most houses on this estate, in late autumn, with a second visit only where a large deciduous tree overhangs the back. What sets it is not the calendar but what fills the run, and here that is roof grit and moss at the front, which builds steadily all year, and leaf litter at the back, which arrives more or less at once. Where a run has been left several years the first visit takes longer and the follow up is short.
Do you cover the whole of Rise Park?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Rise Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of storeys, the length of the run rather than the house type, and whether the downpipes are blocked as well. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start gutter cleaning in Rise Park?
Within a week or two, longer through October and November when everything comes down at once. Every house has a drive and the frontages are open, so a van parks without blocking anyone, and we group Rise Park with Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold on the rota.
