Mattress Cleaning for Colwick homes
Back bedrooms that face the yards and the line, where the window stays shut against noise and grit. That removes the usual drying answer, so the visit is booked for a morning and an air mover does the work instead of an open window.
Beds here are mostly owner occupied and the booking is usually one mattress rather than a set, but the room shapes the visit more than the bed does. The back bedroom of a village semi looks over the yards and the line, and in a good many of these houses that window is kept shut, because opening it brings in noise and a gritty deposit that lands on everything. The standard drying answer, open a window and give it the day, is not available. So the slot goes in for a morning, the moisture put in is held to the least the soiling allows, and an air mover runs across the surface while the base and the headboard are done. The bungalows have the opposite constraint, no stairs at all and often no spare room to sleep in.
Colwick sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. A small residential village pressed between one of the county's larger trading estates and the river. Warehouse and yard dust drifts in from one side, silt and mud off the country park paths walk in from the other, and both land on the same floors.
What we run into on Colwick mattress cleaning jobs
Turn a mattress over in a cold back bedroom and the face nobody looks at is the one worth seeing. A platform top divan gives the mattress a solid unventilated deck to sit on, the room runs cold on this low ground, and moisture leaving a sleeping body condenses at that interface with nowhere to go. What turns up is a bloom of grey speckling across the underside, sharpest under the shoulders and the hips, with a matching shadow printed on the base below it. That is not damp rising through the bed. It is warm air meeting a cold surface, and a slatted base or a regular turn is what stops it returning.
How a Colwick mattress cleaning job actually runs
Two things decide whether a mattress visit runs to time here. The first is where the van can stand, because the machine stays in it and a hose comes through the house to the bedroom, and on the older streets where houses sit close to the pavement with no drive that hose has to reach from a legitimate space rather than a convenient one. The bungalows are simpler, drive to door, and a bungalow bedroom is also the only room in the village with genuine floor space to stand a king mattress on edge while the base gets done. The second is the hour of the day. This is morning work, always, because the bed has to be dry before it is made up and a job starting at three in the afternoon leaves somebody sleeping downstairs. We book early and we tell you when it is safe to remake rather than leaving you to judge it. Strip the bed before we arrive, and have somewhere for the bedding that is not the floor of the room we are working in.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly two and three bedroom semis and short terraces along Vale Road and Mile End Road, bungalows on the cul-de-sacs off them, and a little newer infill nearer the loop road, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Colwick on the same round as Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton.
What we check on every Colwick job
The bed that gets booked is rarely the bed with the problem. In a three bedroom house here the mattress in the smallest room is slept on a few nights a year, it stands in a room that is never heated over a cold ground floor, and the complaint is a musty smell rather than a mark. Before quoting to treat that, we check the curtains and the inside of the wardrobe in the same room. If they smell of the same thing, the bed is not the source and cleaning it buys you a fortnight at most. The check costs nothing and it changes what is worth spending money on, because a mattress that has absorbed a room needs the room dealt with and then an airing, not an enzyme treatment. Where the smell really is in the bed it is sharper, it is strongest close to the surface, and there is usually a mark underneath it.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave
- Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
- Stains and odour: Enzymatic pre-treatment for urine, which breaks down the uric acid crystals a detergent leaves behind
- Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Colwick
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Colwick. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
If we cannot leave the window open, how does it dry?
Air movement rather than fresh air. An air mover pushes a stream across the surface for the whole time we are working on the base and the headboard, with the bedroom door open so the moving air has somewhere to go. Four to eight hours after that is normal, which is why the slot is a morning one. If it still feels cool to the back of your hand in the evening, sleep elsewhere for the night.
Ours is a divan with drawers in it. Does that change anything?
It adds work rather than difficulty. Drawers come out, get emptied and vacuumed, and the runners are where hair and dust actually collect. In a bungalow bedroom there is usually floor space to stand the mattress on edge while the base is done. In a small back bedroom upstairs there is not, so it goes against the long wall and the two faces are worked in turn.
Can you do both beds while you are here?
Yes, and the second one costs less because the call out and the set up are already covered. The limit is drying rather than time. Two beds cleaned in one morning both need the afternoon and the evening to dry, so if one of them is the only bed in a bungalow, think about whether you want them done in the same week. We would rather split it across two visits than have you sleeping on a damp mattress.
There is nowhere else to sleep. What do we do?
Take the earliest slot of the day and it is normally fine. Cleaned before eleven in the morning, with an air mover run over it and the door left open, a sprung mattress in a warm house is ready by the evening. Memory foam is not, and we will say so at booking rather than on the day. If the room is one where the window stays shut, leave the internal door open and the heating on its normal setting.
Do you cover the whole of Colwick?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Colwick?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Colwick?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. The estate roads are numbered rather than named, so a satnav will happily send a van to the wrong Private Road, and we group Colwick with Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton on the rota.
