Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Gamston homes

Block paving at the front of every plot, and on the semis two drives that run into each other with no boundary between them. Clean one half and the join becomes the most visible line on the close.

The front of every plot here is block paved, most of it either original to the build or a widening done since, which means decades of jointing sand washed out and a surface that has gone dark rather than dirty. Two local things follow from that. The semis and the linked houses have drives that run into one another with nothing between them, so the work has a visible edge unless the neighbour goes at the same time. And the back is a different surface altogether: riven concrete slabs on the earlier plots, sandstone on the ones relaid since, with the patio usually running right up to a conservatory base, which sets the pressure long before the algae does.

Gamston sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. Regular domestic work in the family houses, commercial cleaning for the practices and offices around the district centre, and post-construction work that has not stopped since the estate began. New build plots, extensions and garage conversions all keep arriving, and construction dust needs different equipment from anything a weekly visit carries.

What we run into on Gamston driveway & patio cleaning jobs

Black spot is the thing people expect to vanish and it does not. Those small flat black discs across block paving are lichen rather than dirt, and they grow into the face of the block instead of sitting on it, so a rotary cleaner lifts the green algae from around them and leaves the spots looking worse by contrast than they did before. They need a dedicated treatment and dwell time, and even then they fade over weeks rather than lifting on the day. We point them out before the machine starts, because the difference between a drive that comes up like new and one that comes up clean with freckles is worth knowing in advance.

How a Gamston driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs

Water and drainage are the practical questions here, and the answers are good ones. There is an outside tap on nearly every house, the van stands on the road or on the drive itself, and the hose run is short. Where the water goes is the thing worth settling before anything starts. These drives are generally laid to fall toward the road, so the slurry we lift travels down the drive and across the footway to the kerb, and we work down the fall and keep it moving rather than letting it dry as a film on paving we have just cleaned. Where a drive falls the other way, toward an integral garage, we set up to pull the water back rather than push it at a threshold. Cars need to be off for the whole job and back on only once the sand has gone in, which is usually the following day, so a booking on a day when a second car can sit on the close is easier than one where somebody has to leave at two. Round the back, the conservatory and any decking get covered before a machine runs, because the slurry off block paving stains.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly mostly detached and semi-detached brick houses put up from the 1980s onward, arranged in cul-de-sacs named after Lake District lakes and villages, with integral garages and block-paved drives, plus some larger five bedroom houses, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Gamston on the same round as West Bridgford, Edwalton and Colwick.

What we check on every Gamston job

The other thing to look at before the machine comes off the van is where the blocks have already moved. On a drive of this age the patch a car turns on, usually just in front of the garage door, has taken the same twisting load thousands of times, and the blocks there have rutted slightly and lost the sharp arris along their edges, so they read as a shallow dish that holds water after rain. Wash that at the pressure the rest of the drive takes and you remove what little is still holding it together. It gets a lower setting and a slower pass, and it gets pointed out, because rutting means the bedding sand underneath has migrated and that is a relaying job rather than a cleaning one. The same goes at the dropped kerb where the drive meets the road, which is where the edge restraint carries the load and where a block that has begun to rock shows it first.

What the driveway & patio cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The clean: Slurry swept and vacuumed up rather than flushed into the nearest gully or run onto next door's garden
  • The clean: Oil, tyre scuff and leaf tannin staining worked separately, since they are chemistry problems rather than soil
  • The clean: Black spot lichen treated with a proprietary remover and dwell time, because pressure alone does not lift it and pressure hard enough to try will damage the slab
  • The clean: Pressure and nozzle set to the surface, well down on sandstone, limestone and porcelain from what concrete takes

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Gamston

Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£100 to £200

Typical cost in Gamston. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Cleaning, per square metre£3 to £6
Minimum charge on a small jobUsually billed as a 30 m² minimum
Patio, up to 20 m²£90 to £160
Single drive, 30 to 40 m²£100 to £200
Double drive, 50 to 70 m²£150 to £280
Large drive, 90 m² and over£225 to £350

The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Block paving re-sanding, per m²£1.50 to £3
Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m²£4 to £10
Clean and seal together, single drive£200 to £300
Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m²£2 to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Driveway & Patio Cleaningin Gamston

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Our drive and next door's are one continuous area. How do you handle the boundary?

We clean to the line you own and we make the finish deliberate rather than accidental, stopping along a joint rather than halfway across a block. It will still show, because clean block against thirty years of weathering always does. The tidier answer, and the cheaper one per house, is to have both done in the same visit and split it between you, which is a conversation worth having with your neighbour before you book rather than after.

Does the sand have to go back in?

Yes, and it is part of the job rather than an extra on the end of it. The wash takes out whatever jointing sand was left, and blocks with empty joints lose their interlock, begin to move under a car and let weed seed straight down. Kiln dried sand goes back once the surface has dried, brushed in and topped up in stages rather than scattered once and swept off. Where joints have opened wide, a jointing compound holds better than loose sand.

The patio runs right up to the conservatory. Is that a problem?

It is a constraint rather than a problem. Nothing at pressure goes near the glazing, the frame or the base course, so that edge is worked by hand and rinsed at low pressure, and the glass gets covered before we start because slurry dries on it fast. Tell us as well if the conservatory has a timber base or a painted frame. Both take a lot less than uPVC does, and it changes how close a lance is allowed to get.

The weeds keep coming back in the joints. Can you treat them?

We take out what is growing there as part of the clean, but we do not apply professional weedkillers or moss killers, because those are plant protection products and the rules restrict who can put them down. What actually holds weeds back on block paving is a properly filled joint, since seed germinates in an empty one and cannot get a footing in a full one. Where joints are wide or the drive slopes, a jointing compound holds far longer than loose sand.

Do you cover the whole of Gamston?

Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Gamston?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Gamston?

Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Nearly every house has a drive and a garage, so parking is the least of it here, and we group Gamston with West Bridgford, Edwalton and Colwick on the rota.
