After Builders Cleaning for Carrington homes

Knock throughs and small rear extensions carried out against party walls built in the 1830s. There is no side access, so every sheet of board and every bag of rubble crosses the footway, and the frontage ends up part of the job.

The building work on these houses is a knock through, a small rear extension over part of the yard, or a shower forced into the box room, and all of it happens against party walls put up in the 1830s. Chasing one side of a wall for a rewire puts dust and a fair amount of noise into the room on the other side of it, which is worth raising with a neighbour before the work rather than after. The route is the other constraint. There is no side access, so every sheet of plasterboard and every bag of rubble travels through the front door and across the footway, and by the end of it the pavement, the step and the frontage either side are as much part of the clean as the room that was worked on.

Carrington sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The old part of this was laid out in one go, so a run of houses is genuinely identical: same frontage, same room sizes, same window openings, same box room over the stairs. Learn one and you have learned the row, which is why rounds here run street by street rather than jumping about.

What we run into on Carrington after builders cleaning jobs

Fine dust in a small house settles where nobody looks. The first place is the angle where a stair tread meets its riser, where it packs into the edge of a runner or into the board joint and lifts again every time somebody goes up. The second is the top edge of a newly hung door, because doors get fitted and painted in place and then never wiped. The third is inside the radiators, where dust drifts down through the top grille while the heating is off and then bakes on the first cold morning, so the house smells of it for a week. All three take the vacuum and a brush before anything wet goes near them.

How a Carrington after builders cleaning job actually runs

The thing that catches people out on these streets is that the building work has to live on the highway. There is no space on the plot for a skip, so it stands on the road and needs a permit from the council along with lights, and a scaffold that crosses the footway needs its own licence and a boarded walkway under it. All of that has a start date and an end date, and our visit has to fit between the last trade finishing and the skip or the scaffold going away, because a clean done while a wagon is still swinging a container over the front wall gets undone in an afternoon. Services are the second thing to check before we arrive. On a job where the kitchen has been stripped there may be no hot water, and the power may be running off a temporary board with a couple of sockets on it. Tell us which, and we bring water and our own extension arrangements rather than turning up and finding the tap is not connected yet.

Who books it here

The local reference points are the Mansfield Road shops, Watcombe Circus and the City Hospital on Hucknall Road, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Carrington on the same round as Sherwood, Sherwood Rise and Forest Fields.

What we check on every Carrington job

The traps tell you what really happened on site. Wherever the trades have washed tools out, and it is almost always the bath or the downstairs basin because they are nearest, there is a layer of set plaster and tile adhesive sitting in the water seal, hard enough that it has to be lifted out rather than flushed through. Above it, the ceramic itself carries a grey scum ring that is not a stain but a thin film of the same material, and it comes off with a plastic blade and patience rather than with a cream cleaner. The other giveaway is speckle. New paint applied with a roller throws a mist that lands on everything within a couple of paces, so window ironmongery, radiator valves, socket faces and the underside of new stair spindles all carry a fine spatter that only shows when the light is across it.

What the after builders cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Stage three, the final buff: Glass, chrome and floors
  • Stage one, the rough clean: Paint, plaster, grout and adhesive from glass, tiles and hardware
  • Stage two, the detail clean: New appliance interiors and transit packaging removed
  • Stage three, the final buff: Filters changed in extractors and ventilation that have been pulling dust for weeks

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full after builders cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Carrington property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What after builders cleaning costs in Carrington

Priced by surface area and dust load rather than bedroom count, across all stages. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£180 to £350

Typical per project in Carrington. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per project
Single room refurbishment£180 to £350
Kitchen or bathroom fit-out£250 to £450
Loft conversion£350 to £600
Extension, 2 to 3 rooms£500 to £900
Whole house renovationQuoted after a site visit

Three things explain most of the gap between two builders clean quotes: whether all stages are included, whether window exteriors are covered, and who removes the waste.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Exterior windows£30 to £90
Carpet cleaning, per room£35 to £60

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

After Builders Cleaningin Carrington

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Should we book halfway through the work or at the end?

At the end, after the last trade that makes dust. A clean booked between the plasterer and the joiner is money spent twice, because the joinery puts another layer straight back down. The exception is when you are living in the house while the work runs, which is common here because there is nowhere else to move to. In that case a partial clean of the rooms you are actually using earns its keep, and the finished clean stays a separate booking.

Our neighbours have got dust from our work. Can you clean their side too?

Yes, as a separate booking with their agreement, and it is usually paid for by whoever caused it rather than by them. Normally it is one or two rooms against the party wall plus the frontage, which is a short job and a lot cheaper than a bad relationship with the house next door. It is worth offering it before they ask. We work to their instructions on the day, not yours, since it is their house we are in.

The builder says they will clean at the end. Is that the same thing?

It is a different job with the same name. A builder's clean is a site tidy: waste out, floors swept, surfaces cleared so the work can be inspected and handed over. What it is not is a domestic finish, because the dust is still in the trap of every radiator, on the tops of doors, in the window channels and on the ceilings. Most builders will say as much if you ask them directly. Get the site tidy from them and book the finishing clean separately.

How soon after the decorating can it all be washed down?

Later than you would think, and this is the mistake we most often have to warn about. Fresh emulsion feels dry within hours but keeps hardening for a good while afterwards, and washing it too early burnishes it, leaving shiny patches wherever a cloth passed. New plaster behind it is still giving up moisture as well. We clean everything else properly, take the dust off paintwork dry rather than wet, and come back to washing new paint once it has had time.

Do you cover the whole of Carrington?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does after builders cleaning cost in Carrington?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the surface area and dust load, how many stages you need, and who is removing the waste. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start after builders cleaning in Carrington?

As soon as the last trade is off site, and we book all the stages up front rather than one at a time. Streets inside the old grid are short, narrow and parked both sides with no drives at all, so we stop where it is legal and carry in, and we group Carrington with Sherwood, Sherwood Rise and Forest Fields on the rota.
