Driveway & Patio Cleaning for Calverton homes
The estate was built without drives at all. They came later, cut across the front garden and over a wide grass verge to a dropped kerb, and plenty are a shared strip between two semis running to garages at the back.
The ground is rarely one thing. A drive here started as a path and a lawn, and it has been widened, block paved, patched at the kerb and run round to a side gate across forty years, so one frontage can hold pressed concrete slab, blocks of two different ages and a strip of tarmac where it meets the road. Each of those takes a different pressure and a different chemistry, and the wash will show you exactly where one stops and the next begins whether or not you wanted to know that. Then there is the shared strip between paired semis, where the middle of the job belongs to somebody else and the run off has to be given somewhere to go before the water is turned on.
Calverton sits in NG14, under Gedling Borough Council. Fortnightly domestic work is the base of it, in houses where the whole household drives out in the morning and nobody is back before evening. Deep cleans get booked as one longer visit instead of split across weeks. Carpet extraction is third and takes more of the diary here than the housing alone would suggest.
What we run into on Calverton driveway & patio cleaning jobs
The edge over the verge is where these drives fail first. A block drive laid out across a grass verge to a dropped kerb often has nothing restraining the outside course except the grass itself, so the blocks creep outwards, the joints open, and jointing sand has been washing out of them for years before anybody looks. Wash it and the joints open further, which is less the cleaning doing damage than it is taking away what was propping the edge up. So we say so before we start, sand it properly afterwards in stages rather than one scattering, and point out that a spreading edge is a laying job. A slab that rocks underfoot is the same answer.
How a Calverton driveway & patio cleaning job actually runs
Two things have to exist before a date is worth setting: an outside tap that runs at a decent rate, and a socket. Most houses here have both. The older properties in the core sometimes have neither at the front, which is solvable but needs knowing in advance. After that it is about where the water goes. There is no gully in the lane outside a good many of these houses, so the slurry cannot simply be flushed away and left to somebody else. It is directed onto ground we have agreed with you, then swept and vacuumed up, and the route is worked out before the water is turned on rather than after a neighbour appears. Cars, bins and furniture come off first, planting and painted timber get sheeted, and washing needs to be off the line. If a shared strip is in scope, both households need to know the date. The last part is that this is often two visits. Sand goes in once the surface has dried, and sealing, where you want it, is a separate return on a properly dry day. Out here that is a second journey, so both dates get pencilled together.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly stone and pantile cottages in the old core, brick rows built for the colliery in the fifties, and private estates and bungalows spread over what was farmland, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Calverton on the same round as Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village.
What we check on every Calverton job
Black spot is the thing people have been scrubbing at for years without knowing what it is. It shows on the pale pressed concrete slabs that went down on a lot of these patios, worst on whatever faces away from the sun or sits under a hedge, and it looks like specks of tar that will not come off. It is lichen, and it is not sitting on the surface so much as gripping into it, which is why pressure does nothing until the pressure is high enough to take the top layer of the slab away with it. Then you have a clean slab with a different texture from the one next to it, permanently. It wants a proprietary remover and dwell time, sometimes a second application on the bad ones, and an honest word that it will come back eventually because the conditions that grew it have not changed. Leaf tannin under a tree is a separate chemistry again and gets treated as its own problem.
What the driveway & patio cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Before the water goes on: Established weeds, roots and thick moss pulled and scraped out of the joints by hand first
- The clean: The run-off checked before we leave, not after somebody complains
- Before the water goes on: Cars, bins and furniture moved off, planting and painted timber sheeted
- Putting it back: Sand worked down and topped up in stages rather than scattered once and swept off
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full driveway & patio cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What driveway & patio cleaning costs in Calverton
Cleaning priced by the square metre at typical UK rates, with a minimum charge on small jobs. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£100 to £200
Typical cost in Calverton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cleaning, per square metre | £3 to £6 |
| Minimum charge on a small job | Usually billed as a 30 m² minimum |
| Patio, up to 20 m² | £90 to £160 |
| Single drive, 30 to 40 m² | £100 to £200 |
| Double drive, 50 to 70 m² | £150 to £280 |
| Large drive, 90 m² and over | £225 to £350 |
The minimum charge is what catches people out. A 15 m² patio is usually billed as 30 m², so at £3 to £6 per square metre it costs the same £90 to £180 as a patio twice the size. Cleaning a patio and a path in the same visit spreads that minimum across more ground.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Block paving re-sanding, per m² | £1.50 to £3 |
| Sealing, on a separate dry visit, per m² | £4 to £10 |
| Clean and seal together, single drive | £200 to £300 |
| Heavy moss, weed or oil pre-treatment, per m² | £2 to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We share the drive with next door. How does that work?
Agree it between you before the date, because the surface runs continuously and there is no sensible line to stop at halfway. Doing both halves at once is cheaper per square metre and it is the only way the result looks like one drive afterwards. If only one of you wants it done we will still do it, and we will tell you plainly that the finished edge will show. Their car needs moving either way.
The path round the back to the coal house is green and slippery. Same job?
Same visit, slightly different problem. A shaded path that stays damp grows algae, which is soft and comes off readily. Black spot lichen is the other one, flat, small and bonded into the surface, and that needs a proprietary remover and dwell time rather than more pressure, because pressure hard enough to shift it takes the top off the concrete with it. We treat those separately and tell you which of the two you have.
Will the run off go into next door or onto the lane?
Not if it is planned. Gullies, air bricks and door thresholds get covered before we start, and the slurry is swept and vacuumed rather than chased into the nearest drain, which is where it silts up and becomes somebody else's blockage. On a shared strip we agree the fall between both houses first. If the only sensible route is across a boundary, we say so and ask, rather than discovering the answer afterwards.
Should the drive be sealed once it is clean?
Possibly, but never on the same day, whatever the weather is doing. Sealer goes onto a properly dry surface, which after a wash means days rather than hours, so it is quoted as its own return visit. Imprinted concrete is the one to separate out. If yours looks patchy and grey, what has failed is the sealer coat rather than the concrete underneath it, and jetting that hard makes the problem worse.
Do you cover the whole of Calverton?
Yes, all of NG14 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does driveway & patio cleaning cost in Calverton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the square metreage, the surface, and whether you want re-sanding or sealing afterwards. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start driveway & patio cleaning in Calverton?
Within a week or two from March onwards, and we watch the forecast rather than book a hard date in winter. Parking is the easy part: drives on nearly everything, and we group Calverton with Arnold, Burton Joyce and Bestwood Village on the rota.
