Gutter Cleaning for Ruddington homes

A terrace here has one continuous gutter and one downpipe at the end, so clearing your own length achieves little if the outlet two doors along is plugged. The rear addition carries a second, lower run nobody can see from the street.

A terrace here has one gutter, not four. The run is continuous along the row with a single fall and one downpipe at the end of it, so clearing the length over your own house achieves very little if the outlet two doors along is plugged. It is a row job, and it goes best when the neighbours know the date. Height is the easy part, since the eaves on the older cottages sit low enough that a pole is working well within itself, and the rear addition carries a second, lower run of its own that gets forgotten because nobody can see it from the street. What fills them is garden and churchyard seed, leaf, and moss off the shaded rear slope.

Ruddington sits in NG11, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. On the practical side: Village centre parking is limited around the green. Most properties have a drive or nearby on-street space.

What we run into on Ruddington gutter cleaning jobs

On the older elevations there is no fascia board at all. A cast iron ogee gutter is bolted to the brickwork on rise and fall brackets, with its back edge sitting hard against the wall head, so a run that fills does not spill clear of the building the way a plastic half round on a timber fascia does. It goes over the back edge and into the top of the wall. That is why the camera pass matters more on this stock than the clearing does, because a stain running down the inside of a bedroom wall is often a gutter that has been overflowing backwards for years.

How a Ruddington gutter cleaning job actually runs

The village round runs from October, once the trees nearest the older houses have dropped, and doing it in September only means doing it again before Christmas. Front elevations are worked off the footway, so the van stands where it can and the pole reaches the run from the pavement, which puts the barrel and the hose across a public path for the length of the job. That sets the hours more than anything else does: quiet times rather than school times, the flags swept before we move along, the machine kept tight to the wall. Getting to the back is the other half of it. Where a row has an entry, the barrel goes through on its wheels and the rear addition is done at the same visit. Where there is none, the rear run is reached through the house or on a day somebody is in, and that is much better settled at the booking than on the doorstep. Out on the newer estates a side gate and a driveway remove all of that, and every elevation is reached in one pass.

Who books it here

Older cottages with stone and quarry-tiled floors, low ceilings and small windows. The floor products matter here, and acidic cleaners stay in the van.

We run Ruddington on the same round as West Bridgford, Clifton and Keyworth.

What we check on every Ruddington job

What comes out of a village gutter is mostly not leaf. The bulk of it is seed, the winged sort that lands in a run in early summer and germinates in the silt, so a neglected gutter over a rear addition often carries an inch of soil with grass and sycamore seedlings rooted through it, and that has to be lifted rather than sucked. Behind it is moss shed off the shaded rear slope in flakes rather than as a mat, and a plug of the lot sitting in the outlet where the run tips into the pipe. On the older properties there is often a hopper part way down the stack, an open funnel catching everything the pipe cannot take, and a hopper is emptied by hand because a vacuum head will not sit in one. All of it is filmed going in and coming out.

What the gutter cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The camera: A look along every run before anything starts, so you know what is actually in there
  • The camera: Wireless camera on the pole head, so the inside of the gutter is visible from the ground
  • Clearing: Conservatory and lean-to gutters where they are reachable from the ground
  • Clearing: Debris bagged and taken away, not tipped into the border

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full gutter cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Ruddington property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What gutter cleaning costs in Ruddington

Gutter clearing by ground based vacuum, at typical UK market rates by property type. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£70 to £120

Typical per visit in Ruddington. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
Bungalow or single storey£45 to £75
Terraced house£55 to £90
Semi-detached£70 to £120
Detached£100 to £180
Three storey or townhouse£140 to £220
Priced by the metre instead£4 to £12 per metre

Gutters are quoted per visit, so a semi-detached cleared twice a year sits at roughly £140 to £240 a year. If a quote looks high against that, ask for the per metre rate instead: it shows whether the price was worked out from your actual run of guttering or from a glance at the front of the house.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Conservatory gutter added to a visit£30 to £50
Downpipe unblocked, per pipe£20 to £60
External gutter wash, fascias and soffits£40 to £80
Gutter guards supplied and fitted, by others£200 to £500

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

It is a shared run. Do the neighbours have to be in?

Not in, but told. The pole and the vacuum work from the footway and the debris comes down into the machine rather than onto anyone, so nothing has to happen inside a house. What we do need is agreement to carry on past your boundary to the outlet, because stopping at the party wall leaves the water with nowhere to go. Where two or three houses share one visit it also costs each of them less.

Ours is over the pavement. Is that a problem?

It sets the time of day rather than stopping the job. The machine and the pole stand on the footway, so the front elevation is worked when it is quiet rather than at school times, with the barrel kept tight to the wall and the flags swept before we move along. Where the downpipe discharges over a gully at the kerb that gets checked as well, because a blocked one puts the water straight back onto the pavement.

There are seedlings growing out of the gutter. Is that a bigger job?

A longer one, and worth knowing before we quote. A gutter with things growing in it has silt in the bottom holding the roots, so it is lifted out in handfuls first and vacuumed second, and the run has usually been standing under water long enough to test the joints. A first visit on a gutter like that is quoted above the ones after it. Once it is empty, an annual clear keeps it to a few minutes an elevation.

The overflow marks the wall rather than the ground. Why?

Because on these elevations the gutter is fixed to the brickwork with no fascia behind it, so the back edge sits against the wall head and a full run goes backwards into the masonry instead of over the front lip onto the path. That is the version that does damage, and it stays invisible from the ground until the inside of the wall shows it. We film the back edge as well as the channel for exactly that reason.

Do you cover the whole of Ruddington?

Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Ruddington?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of storeys, the length of the run rather than the house type, and whether the downpipes are blocked as well. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start gutter cleaning in Ruddington?

Within a week or two, longer through October and November when everything comes down at once. Village centre parking is limited around the green, and we group Ruddington with West Bridgford, Clifton and Keyworth on the rota.
